Chapter 21
Yoo Hoo! Has Anyone Seen My Sanity?
After everything that had been going on, it was strange to just be...normal again. A week with Marcella Vivas was something we all were needing, which consisted of motherly love, tons of food, and time to just sit around and do nothing.
Well, not exactly nothing. Drake and I went on an actual date for the first time since we left Scotland. It was just dinner and a midnight stroll around the city, but it was something we were both needing.
It wasn't until the next morning when Cruz and Kenna both came barging into our room that the screaming started. Drake, who had slowly been kissing his way down my stomach, quickly pulled the covers over both of us as they quickly closed the door again. But hey, it was their fault they came in without knocking first. Cruz was swearing from the other side of the closed door, saying that it wasn't hard to lock a door even putting a sock on the handle.
Kenna couldn't stop laughing either...and told Drake she always knew his ass was hot without pants covering it.
I almost died from laughter and embarrassment.
Personally, I was surprised that nothing bad had happened, but I wasn't going to say it out loud for fear of it actually coming true the next time we stepped out of the house.
What I suggested one night as the four of us sat in a coffee shop after dinner wasn't going to help that feeling either.
"Vince has a house here in Madrid, correct?" I asked, leaning into Drake's side as I sipped at my coffee. "Do we know if he's here?"
"Beau and Flannery were going to let us know. We haven't heard anything from them in a while, so I would suggest he's not," Cruz answered.
Kenna, who had her laptop open on the table in front of her, nodded as her fingers danced across the keyboard. Just a moment later, she turned it so we could all see the screen. Of course, she hacked into Vince's home security footage. "Nothing going on in asshole territory. What are you thinking, my evil genius friend?"
"Oh, you know. The usual," I smiled. "I know we think Cruz's mom has got the key, but we've turned that place upside down and haven't found anything. Who's to say he was bluffing and really has it in the city where she is...more specifically, in his house? I think we should break in while we still have time to."
Cruz gave me a blank look. Even Drake leaned away from me just to give me a worried and confused expression.
"Just because there's no one there doesn't mean they don't have something else up their sleeve," Cruz stated.
"He's right about that."
The four of us hadn't said anything, but looked up to see Beau and Flannery standing there at the end of our table. I couldn't help the squeal that came from my mouth as I pushed away from Drake and jumped up to give Flannery a hug first with her laughing at my enthusiasm. Beau was my next target and his arms wrapped tightly around me as if he still couldn't believe I was alive.
"What are you guys doing here?" I grinned, dragging him down to sit beside me in the booth with Drake.
"What do you think?" Flannery said, rolling her eyes as she sat next to Cruz. "Vince changed his mind after that last stunt with you. Beau and I have been here for only a day, but Vince has had his people around the city for a week now. He's just got here today himself. He should be on his way to the house in..." She looked down at her watch. "In about twenty minutes, actually. We don't have much time with you guys. He'll be expecting us a little while after he arrives."
