a wavering hand

97 18 2

one, two
steps graceful only to
falter in the midst of a dance
she collapses against the weight
of her father's pleas.

a leap
for the stars, just like she
tells everyone else to reach for
the skies instead of blank walls
and her mother's screams.

a duet
between her and the future
holds no destiny, holds unbarred
and yet they echo
there is no escape.

a dismount
from the doors of a truck
not sealing her in any longer
that she was forced into the exposure
they have to move forward.

perhaps
when you're out of my sight
you'll pass me by too.
