A Surprise Visit From An Old Fiend

You open your eyes slowly to be surprised by darkness. You feel as if you were floating. As you blink your eyes in confusion, a figure slowly approaches you. As it gets closer, you begin to recognize him. He wears a pair of jeans and a dark blue shirt, but no shoes. He stops in front of you, his eyes looking like pools of stars that stare into you. You can hardly get his name out without choking on tears.

"C-Cross!"

He holds his arms out wide, and you run into his gentle and warm grasp. He recognizes that name due to a scar that he received from training with you when you were both twelve. He accepted the name and the scar, happy to have a tough name to go with a tough scar.

"(Y/n), I've come to tell you something...." he begins, "She's on her way...be careful....."

"Cross? What do you mean?" You state nervously.

Slowly, he begins to fade before your eyes, leaving you in tears.

"CROSS! PLEASE! DON'T LEAVE ME AGAIN!"

You wake up with a start and sit upright in your bed. 5.0.5 Jumps at your sudden waking, dropping the rest of the bandage he has in his paws. You apologize and look at your arms and legs. They are all wrapped up perfectly in bandage, including your head where the scars were from when Black had gotten you a few days ago. You get up quickly and thank him for the bandages and leave your room. Down the hall you hear a loud bang and yelling.

"What was THAT!?"

You run down the hall as fast as your legs will allow and turn the corner into the lab. As soon as you enter, you see a slightly bruised Flug laying crumpled up on the floor with a huge chunk of the wall under him. You quickly call 5.0.5, who rushes to where you called. He picks up Flug and leans him against a wall, then begins to set to work. You look into the room where Flug had been blown out.

"This must be the testing room..." you think to yourself.

Black Hat stands in front of the hole in the wall, growling at something. You slowly approach him and tap on him. He whips around, showing that one of his eyes are glowing red. You flinch at such a gesture.

"WHAT DO YOU-" he starts, but after realizing that it's you, his tone softens a bit.

"I need your help dealing with this dipshit in here. She just blew both our walls out and is demanding something." He growls.

You step into the room and stand beside Black, slowly beginning to see who he is growling at. Immediately, the girl's expression changes from seemingly annoyed to a grin that grows slowly. She approaches a bit closer, but still keeps her distance from you both.

"Look who it is! It's been so long since I've seen you!" She remarks.

The girl is wearing a pair of dark brown shorts, brown boots, and has a yellow and blue striped sweater. Her short brown hair bobs around as she moves her head in greeting. Her smile shows small dimples. Her red rosy cheeks glow in the light, and her green eyes seemingly tear into you. Your face contorts in confusion. She seems.....familiar.

"What? Don't remember me?" She smiles, "Maybe you should've asked your little friend what my name was before he died!"

Your pupils fold into slits in fear, and your eyes grow wider. You remember everything.

"(Y/n), go back home. I got this." Cross states.

"N-no! I don't want you to get hurt!" You argue.

"Aw! How pathetic! They're arguing over who should die first! Lemme pick....eeny meeny miny MOE!" She cackles, swinging her weapon at Cross. Cross takes a slice to the chest, causing him to bleed out.

You watch as his blood lands on you and he falls to the ground, almost landing in the fire encircling the three of you.

"(Y/n), please....it's no use....just promise me....you will stay determined to grow and become better....better than me...." he hands you a golden heart shaped locket, and it drops into your hands like a heavy stone.

"DON'T SAY THAT! YOU'LL LIVE! JUST HANG ON A SECOND LONGER! PLEASE!" You cry out. He blinks once at you and smiles, then his eyes shut forever.

"I will avenge you...even if it kills me...."

You slowly come back to reality, your sadness, fear, and anger rising up from the ashes. A shadow crosses over your face, and you close your eyes.

"So you remembered? Aw! You miss your little friend?" The voice cackles.

Slowly a smirk spreads across your face, revealing all of your teeth, which are as sharp as Black's. You open your eyes, revealing a red aura around each eye, which glows under the shadow. You feel your claws grow twice their size, and a growl forms in your throat. In the corner of your eye, you see Black confused yet seeming interested and shocked in your anger. You feel Flug and 5.0.5 duck back into the lab, scurrying to find cover. You even feel the girl flinch.

"Riley! How nice it is for you to come and visit! I haven't seen you for years! Must've been because you're a coward. Otherwise you would've finished me off on the spot years ago!" You reply sharply.

You suddenly let out a loud and creepy laugh, taking both Black and Riley by surprise.

"So, why did you come here coward?" You hiss.

"I came here to finish you off like I should've many years ago!" Riley laughs.

"If you want me so bad," you say, your eyes turning red and dripping blood and ink. "Come get me."

You watch as she comes running at you, her eyes both turning from green to pink. She swats her arm in front of her in a certain motion, causing a scythe to spawn and land in her hands. It doesn't really catch you by surprise, and you wave your hand into the air, causing fifty knives to spawn above you. You wave your arm in her direction, and the knives fire off at her. She dodges them easily and swipes at you with her scythe. You easily dodge a bunch of the swats but one, which caused you to be sent into a wall. You get off the wall, a little dazed. You advance towards Riley once again, this time slashing your claws violently at her. You managed to land a hit on her. She simply wiped the blood off with one finger, seemingly to taunt you. Black just watches you in awe, surprised at your power as he has never seen you use it before. Riley takes advantage of this opportunity. She runs towards Black, who is still looking at you full of interest.

"BLACK! LOOK OUT!" You shout, teleporting so you stand in front of him.

Your eyes glow light red and a shield forms from the floor to curve in front of you both. Riley manages to shatter the glass, but is sent flying into a wall. You use your powers to keep the broken glass hovering in air then wave your arms towards her once again, causing shards of glass to head towards her. Black says nothing, just grumbles like his normal self. You notice that she is under the pile of glass shards, unmoving. The pile suddenly shudders, and she teleports out of the pile and behind Black Hat, catching you both by surprise.

"Checkmate." She whispers, making a clear and deep cut into Black's back. Black utters a groan and falls onto the ground, beginning to bleed from the deep cut.

"BLACK!"
