Chapter 5: Ties of Heart Break

Dani

As I woke up I went to stretch my legs, but I suddenly brushed up against a large, warm body. I knew who it was when felt the bond in my mind hum, from Gabe's close proximity. The memory of what had happened the night before made me smile, as did the soreness in my legs. I slowly turned my body until I was looking at his peaceful, sleeping face. I couldn't help but smile at how relaxed his face looked, and I slowly leaned forward to gently kiss his cheek.

Getting up out of bed I put on a robe, then went to brush my teeth, and hair. I looked in the mirror to see how swollen my lips were, and how all of my hair had been pushed to one side by his hands. I smiled in realization of the fact that, I liked this look of post-passion. After I finished in the bathroom, I moved towards the front door to see who else was up at this time. When I opened my door I was greeted by an extremely unwelcome sight.

"Good morning, Bitch"

I glared at Jenna. She was Lance's sister and one of only two people I hated more than him. She was also my step-sister. After Jenna and Lance's mom Julia married my dad, the King, Jenna had these stupid ideas in her head about being an heir to the throne. When she found out that, despite my being adopted I was still the heir ahead of her, she made it her life's mission to make my life as miserable as possible. I quickly stepped out into the hallway, and shut the door so that our inevitably hostile conversation wouldn't wake up the sleeping man inside.

"What do you want?" I gritted out attempting to keep control of my temper. It's funny, I never really had a temper problem until Jenna or anyone from her family was around. She smirked at me and sat down on the bench, where not even 12 hours ago, Gabe and I had kissed. "I was simply walking around last night when I saw a peculiar sight," she started off, "You and Gabriel were out here, trying to choke each other with your tongues. Curious isn't it?" she looked at me with mischief in her eyes and an evil-bitch-smirk on her lips. I felt all of the blood rush from my face as I realized what she knew. "Let me repeat myself. What do you want?" The words came out in an animalistic growl, as I glared at her imagining the various ways I could kill her. "I'll put this simply. Break-up with your boy toy, or I'll have my spies kill him."

My head snapped to the side at her words, and the growl deepened as I found myself pushing her against the wall, my arm at her throat. "What spies? How many are there? And you keep them the HELL away from him!" I said keeping my voice near a whisper, to keep others from hearing the conversation. Jenna just smiled again, before snapping her fingers. Suddenly, behind me, 30 men appeared wearing her family crest on their shoulders. Each of them pointing a sword at me, forcing the release of Jenna who couldn't have looked more pleased with herself.

"Now, now, now, let's all just calm down." she said condescendingly "I told you the rules Daniella. The consequences will be your own fault, if you choose not to follow them." I looked around me at all of the traitors of the kingdom. "Why do you care if Gabe and I are together anyway?" I snapped at her feeling my fangs extend at the thought of my loved ones being threatened. She laughed at me cruelly, "If you break his heart, you'll break his trust. If that happens, that is one less ally you'll have in the upcoming battle." A chuckle burst forth from my mouth "Is this still about the fact that I'm a more important princess than you? I'm his daughter, you aren't. Get over it! You don't even really like my father, all you like is the idea of being able to boss people around."

Her eyes narrowed and her mouth thinned. "Like I said, break up with him or he dies. Also if you tell him why you're breaking up with him, he'll die. You have until tonight." She turned away and walked down the hallway, with her "spies" following close behind.

I walked back into the room and saw Gabe still asleep, completely oblivious to just how much our lives were about to change. Looking closer I saw the tattoo of his family crest on his left shoulder, and I knew that if he turned I would see the Symbol of Guardians on the right side of his chest. Even before we had slept together I knew every part of his body. I knew how his green eyes got lighter when he was fighting, and darker when he laughed. I knew how his nose would twitch subconsciously to the left when he smelled something he hated, and to the right when he smelled something he wanted. I knew this man better than I knew myself, so I knew that the next few minutes would probably be the worst in his life.

In my dream, Dani and I were running through the woods in our wolf forms, as the trees flew past us. I heard a loud click and suddenly found myself in bed tangled in a sheet. Glancing up I met Dani's eyes and I started to smile, but then I saw the sadness hidden in her gray depths. Getting up I started to walk towards her, but she stopped me before I could pull her into my arms.

"What's wrong babe?" I asked, as she looked away from me and grimaced. She didn't answer for a long time, and my worry only grew. "Dani, what happened? Why are you upset?" I start questioning her frantically, all the while clutching her face between my hands, and forcing her to face me. "I don't want to hurt you." she sobs, "I don't want to cause you pain." I can only stare at her as she opens her eyes to look at me, her distress and regret clearly visible. "What are you talking about? How, and better yet, why would you hurt me?" She flinches at my question and I can feel a sense of dread that solidifies at her next words. "Last night was a mistake."
