Soulmates can never be together. Because they are part of the same soul, the same entity.

There's a story that goes with it. The first humans had the male and the female in the same body, joined together somehow. So they didn't gave to waste time or energy on reproduction. They got too powerful, and the ancient gods felt threatened.
So they divided the male and the female, and thus weakened the race. The soul got divided too, and the half-souls inside of us keep searching for the other half, all the time. This is where the story ends.
But what happens when they find each other? I think it gets too much then. Too much to take. The half-soul, on being united with its other half, loses it's entity. It's too powerful a union to happen. The half-souls have got too used to being alone, they want to keep looking for their lost halves, they don't want change. We are all scared of completion. Maybe it's a curse from the gods as well.

Do I make any sense?

She wonders whether the story is made for people like us to feel better. Maybe it is, who knows. Let's believe in our story of lost souls, for it is a beautiful one.
