Since being diagnosed, Armani's health only seemed to decline faster though he did manage an extra year of a pitiful life. The chemotherapy didn't go to plan and he decided that the blindingly clean walls of the hospital would be the ones he would see every time he opened his eyes.
Arabella insisted on staying with him for as long as possible. Even if that meant having to be kicked out of the hospital by staff at ungodly hours of the morning.
"Let me tell you about the time I lived in England." Armani began, "for a price."
Arabella furrowed her brows, panicking a little, "and what may this price be?"
"Chamomile tea. It's my favourite. There's a station over there with a few tea bags and a kettle." Armani snuggled into the warmth of his bedsheets before Arabella broke into a fit of laughter. "What now?" He asked with a small hint of annoyance.
"Remind me how old you are?" She teased before approaching the tea station.
"One can never be too young nor old for a good cup of chamomile tea, one sugar please." He argued stubbornly, "anyway, before moving to Ireland I lived in England for a while. It was fun but wasn't exactly my cup of tea."
"That might've not been but this is." Arabella chuckled softly at her own joke, handing the tea to Armani. Who only rolled his eyes with a small smirk playing on his lips in response. "That was funny. Admit it." She grinned at him.
"Whatever. I remember this one time I was at school and there were these twins and they were so much taller than me it wasn't fair. One of them used me as an arm rest!" He recalled, chuckling at the memory.
"What were their names?" Arabella asked leaning back in her chair, drumming the arm of the chair.
"Zara and Layth." He replied almost instantly.
"You never told me about them." A third voice piped in. A voice that was so recognisable it pained Armani to listen to it. He looked towards the door where a familiar blonde stood.
"I don't want to talk to you, she says. I don't want to see you, she says." Armani spat bitterly before taking a sip of his tea. He immediately hissed as the tea burned his tongue. He never seemed to wait long enough. "Why are you burdening my dying soul" he sighed dramatically.
"I wanted to see you." She shuffled awkwardly in place.
"Make up your damn mind." Armani rolled his eyes and giving Arabella a look.
"I see you've moved on." Juliette laughed harshly. Gesturing towards the girl that sat by Armani's side.
"I'm sorry. Who are you?" Arabella cut in before the tension rose further.
"I could ask you the same question." Juliette narrowed her eyes, standing up straight.
"I asked first." Arabella argued childishly receiving a harsher glare from Juliette and a chuckle from Armani. He was somewhat enjoying this twisted Saturday night entertainment.
"I'm his ex girlfriend." Juliette seethed, not taking her eyes off of Arabella.
"I'm his friend." Arabella explained calmly.
"Oh I see you're stuck in the frien-" Juliette's sarcastic remark was cut off by Armani's rather obnoxious slurping.
"It was lovely seeing you Juliette, however I'm going to have to ask you to leave. You're not welcome." He smiled at her, a smile that wore the title of innocence with pride.
"I'm not welcome?" She repeated with exasperation, "Armani, I loved you." She begged.
Before Armani could reply for himself, Arabella cut in. "You might've loved him however I love him. Take note of the tense." She blurted before realising the weight of the words spoken.
The room fell to silence. Not a soul moved for minutes until Juliette let out a frustrated grunt and allowed the room to fill with the noise of her heels against the floor.
"Juliette." Armani finally spoke. The blonde turned around to meet Armani's eyes. "Don't bother coming to my funeral." He glanced at the clock, "you may want to hit the road now. Traffic tends to build up at this time."
Hurt and confusion overcame her features as she attempted to hold her head high and left.
"So..." Armani looked towards Arabella with a boyish grin painting his face. "You love me?" He asked with hope lining his words.
Arabella took a deep breath. "Wise men say." She began to sing. Armani froze in place in response. "Only fools rush in." She continued, moving to sit beside him on the bed
"But I can't help, falling in love with you." Armani joined in, singing off key. His voice breaking on the final note. "That's one of my favourite songs you know." He smiled at her. "You should go too. You need the sleep and so do I." He told her before kissing her forehead lightly.
"I don't want to go." She argued.
"You'll see me tomorrow. I promise." He caught her pinkie and wrapped his own around it. Smiling at her one last time before letting her go.
Unbeknownst to her. She wouldn't see him again. He had fallen asleep, yes. But waking up was the harder part.
