With one phone call. Their worlds crashed into the vast dark sea, never to be traced. Like a plane disappearing into the oceans.
Arabella was the first to know out of the pair. Naturally, after spending months with the boy and his family, they had reached out to her in a fit of sobs that were loud enough to shake the earths plates.
"What do you mean 'he's dead?" She asked with false confidence, "he can't be. He promised that I'll see him tomorrow." She laughed in the face of irony. He had always said he was bad at keeping promises. Why didn't it click before?
He wasn't allowed to be dead. It was too soon. He was alive yesterday. He was breathing. He was smiling.
This must be some kind of sick joke. It has to be. There's no other explanation.
Denial was all Arabella could think about. Denial and betrayal.
She was truly alone.

Juliette sobbed until her ribs ached for sanity. Her heart thumping against her chest to the beat of her cries. Threatening to rip out of her. Her bed sheets soaked through with pity.
Cameron sat beside her awkwardly. Not knowing how to comfort the girl. The space between them wide enough to fit three planets. "I think you should go to his funeral."
"I think you've thought enough. Last time you gave me your opinion, I ended up losing him. And now I won't get him back!" She wept while Cameron sighed. This was the second time she had said those exact words. The first time was after Cameron suggested to see him in the hospital.
"I said if things got worse." He defended himself only to be cut off by the angry blonde once more.
"What got worse was my feelings towards you." She blurted and immediately kept talking to mask her mistake, "he's gone. That's that. He doesn't want me at his funeral. Don't you understand?" She sniffled. Wiping her eyes.
"Just pay your respects and go. You don't need to talk to anyone. Stay for the prayers." Cameron coaxed.
"Your right. I'll go." She finally agreed. Guilt churning inside her like a knife twisting inside their final victim.
