"You've got to be kidding me, Newt!" the MACUSA auror exclaimed to the auburn-haired famed magizoologist. I would've thought you learned your lesson now after that whole fiasco in New York a few months ago!"
Newt glumly looked down at the floor and was silent for a few seconds. He then spoke. "I'm sorry, Tina --" but then he was cut off abruptly.
"Don't say sorry to me, Newt! Did you forget about all those No-majs we had to obliviate? And how I almost lost my job on the investigative team? Do you know how close I was to losing something of that much importance to me? It may not seem like a big deal to you, Newt, but think about it this way. In your case, it would be like finding out someone killed all your creatures. Wouldn't that be devastating to you? Wouldn't you feel broken, and lost?"
Newt looked up at Tina but couldn't keep holding eye contact because he felt extremely guilty about this situation. His mind started to wander off, recalling memories from his Hogwarts experience before his expulsion. He remembered spending time with Leta Lestrange, having such a close bond with her since they both seemed to be the "social outcasts" at school, and both happened to have a strong interest in magical creatures. Just as he remembered being used for taking the blame on a failed experiment with creatures, Newt urged his mind to stop recalling anymore memories. He didn't want to get too sentimental. Instead, he concentrated his eyes on a loose piece of string on Tina's white blouse as his mind entered back into the world of reality. "I know what it feels like to lose someon-- something.. that means a lot to you." "And still does", he murmured under his breath quietly, ensuring that Tina could not hear. "But, Tina.. I promise I will get my creatures back in my case immediately. Newt got up from his chair and sighed. "Besides, this time I only lost one creature, which in my opinion is quite an improvement from last time's adventure!", Newt said in an optimistic tone with a slight smile.
"Improvement? You call this an improvement? You shouldn't be wandering around losing any creatures in the first place! "Oh Newt!", Tina said in a worried tone, "Have you ever considered placing your animals in a more.. secure location rather than
leaving it in a case that can be.. well, you know.. stolen by anyone?! You saw Kowalski, your cases were easily swapped!"
"Well, in that case it was just an accident. He didn't mean to steal my case, it's just that they were placed right next to each other and looked almost identical. Now come on, let's go find these creatures!", Newt said, grabbing Tina's arm and leading her outside of her room.
"Uh, Newt.. where's the case?"
They walked past the area where Newt would usually leave his case at Tina's apartment, in the living room corner next to the wall. But nothing was there.
Newt's eyes widened.
"That's odd, I must have accidentally placed it somewhere else...", Newt says as he turned around frantically looking around the apartment for where he could've possibly placed the case. Thoughts about what possibly could've happened began clouding up Newt's mind. Please don't worry. Worrying doesn't help in any situation. After all, my philosophy is that worrying makes you suffer twice.
Tina walked up to him from behind, putting her hands on her hips.
"Are you sure you didn't leave it somewhere outside by accident?", Tina inquired, causing Newt to jump in slight shock. He hadn't noticed Tina was behind him.
"Um, no", Newt answered slowly.
"Well," Tina sighed, "Guess there's only one solution left". Tina pulled out her wand from her long gray overcoat. "Accio case!"
Nothing appeared.
"Mercy Lewis, Newt, it isn't here. Where on earth could it possibly be? If it's not here--"
Tina was cut off by a noise that sounded like it was coming from another room in the apartment.
"Did you hear that?", Newt asked quietly.
"Yeah, we should probably go check it out.."
Newt cautiously pulled out his wand from his blue coat as he and Tina started looking around the house to find what was making that strange sound.
