There are few terms in this chapter which I am explaining here.
Qubool hai: I do/ I accept. It is said by both the bride and groom when they are marrying.
Haq Mehar: A mandatory payment, in the form of money or possessions paid or promised to pay by the groom to the bride at the time of marriage, that legally becomes her property.
Chapter 7
AIRAB
I sigh as I enter into my home. It has been four days and five nights since I was here.
"Sir..." A male butler calls. My all servants have a dress code which they gaily follow.
"Yes, say." I wait for him to speak.
"Sir, Ma'am has not been eating properly."
Unbelievable!
I look over my shoulder and find my mother and sister – guilty. Of what?
"I am sorry Bhai. I tried many times to talk to her but she did not say anything except that she is angry at you and only wants to leash out her anger at the deserving person. She pleaded for peace. I am sorry, I could not look after her in your absence. I am so, so sorry." Sister or wife? Complicated situation. Guilty tears bath her cheeks making me feel bad.
"It's okay, love." I wipe her tears and smile at her.
"No, please you go and check her. Apologize please if you are at mistake which I surely think you are. I am very upset."
"Airab, make sure she is alright." My mother says looking down. Oh, no, mama. I smile at her, too. I hate to admit but half mistake is of my family that my wife hasn't been asked properly, and half is of hers; Miss. Stubborn.
Taking escalator, I quickly reach my floor. The worry starts to consume me. The key and biometric lock did not work and so I am left with nothing but knocking the door.
"Elza, it's me. Open the door, honey." I say, hoping of her safety. She cannot do anything stupid like hurting herself. She may not have gone down or ordered anything to eat but our kitchen was stocked and especially the sweet items.
"Elzaa... Op..." She opens and gets patent heart tugs seeing me. Her face is appalling with red puffy eyes and messy hairs. Her dress has apparent creases.
She looks over my shoulder. Her chest heaves with irregular mouthfuls.
Wait, is she insane? Just because of some heat up discussion, she thinks I will marry another woman. Second marriage is off-limits. She keeps gazing at me with her treacherous dropsically eyes until anger fills her senses. She moves aside and then walks away like her husband's arrival after many days does not nettle her at all. We have issues to solve. Why is she not squalling and accusing me? Allah! I miss her voice.
Bedsheet is crumpled and not even on bed except few inches. Pillows, cushions and hearts are thrown around. Round mats are random and irregular like someone walked and did not care to straighten them. My iPad, also, is thrown casually on bed with ear buds still plugged in. Her mobile is lying on side table, it is switched off I think, yeah, now I am clear why was I unable to reach her. Laptop and iPod are also thrown away. Dressing table is surprisingly still.
She slips inside the coverlet and feigns that she is going to sleep.
I assume she is still not in the right mind-frame to talk. Ugh! When will her fury subside by? I want this over more than anything I have ever wanted in my life.
