So this is a new story that I've decided to right. If anyone can make me a cover please message me, I would really appreciate it. I know there are a lot of stories like this, but please give the story a chance. I hope you enjoy it!
Prologue
I stand by my mother's casket. Wow, I'm only 17 and I've lost my mother. My cold tears slowly roll down my face. I knew that my eyes were becoming puffy but I didn't care. The only person that I had left is gone. I should have been a better daughter. I could I not have known. But most importantly, why didn't she tell me she was dying? Was it really necessary to keep it from me? I know she probably didn't want to worry me, but I had the right to know.
"Mom, why didn't you say it?" I whisper as I look down at her cold, dead body. "You told grandma, grandpa, my cousin. Even..........even he knew. I know cause he sent me a letter, the only letter I've ever recieved from him. So why not me? Maybe you didn't want to hurt me, but by keep the secret it only made it worse when you died. I was clueless as to what was going on when I got a call from grandma at school." I said weakly. "You left me with nothing. The only family I have is grandma and grandpa. But I'm so sorry. I'm sorry that I sometimes treated you like my enemy instead of my friend. My mother. I'm sorry that I didn't say I love you more often. Because I do love you mom. I always will." the last part came out as a whisper.
I turn around and walk towards my grandparents. They open up their arms to me and engulf me in a warm hug. They're the only family I have left. The only ones I can count on when I need help. I let go and turn back around to the others that were making their way to my mother. I looked around the small room filled with everyone mentioned in my mother's will. The only other people there were five close friends that my mother had. Well, four, one of them had brought her husband who was the fifth other person. I recognized her from past visits over the years. Tessa Thurman was the closest friend my mother ever had. They had been best friends in high school and went to the same college. After that, they never lost contact with each other.
I was always in my room when she came to visit, but I knew what she looked like. I knew that she was always something my mother trusted. Too bad she lives in Florida. Its kind of hard to talk to someone that lives in Florida when you live in Seattle, Washington. It must be amazing to live in Florida, with the warm sun shinning. I'm lucky if I get to see sunlight here. I watch as Tessa cries into her husband's shoulder. She was crying almost as much as my grandparents and I were. Her husband lead her away from the casket that was holding my mother. I wonder if she would know who I am. I decided to take the chance and walk over to her and talk to her. I needed to speak to someone else other than family about this.
I walk over quietly as the others say their goodbyes to my mother. I look at Tessa's features, she was tall and skinny. She had light brown hair that complemented her very well. I could no, however figure out the color of her eyes. Her husband tapped on her shoulder and she looked up. She wipped her tears away as she looked at me.
"God, you look just like her." her voice said shaking.
"Thank you. You're Mrs. Thurman correct?" I asked.
"Please, call be Tessa. I would prefer if you called me that from now on." she said with a sad smile.
From now on? She lives in Florida which is on the other side of the country. How would I even see her?
I looked at her with confusion. Her eyes widened with realization as to my thoughts. "Your mother never told you." she stated. There was a hint of surprise in her voice.
"No, she didn't. She had told everyone but me. I don't know why though. She even told.......well, you probably would know. You are her best friend." I said.
"Yes, I know who you are talking about. I'm surprised she told him though. It really isn't any of his buisness. But if you know that she told everyone, then how do you find out?" she asked.
"Um, well, we're currently at the reading of her will. When she past, someone had to tell me how it happened." I replied.
Tessa's eyes widened in shock. "She never told you about her death?" she asked.
"Well I thought you figured that out when you said 'your mother never told you'." I said.
"I was talking about-" Tessa got cut off by the lawyer.
"Ladies and gentlemen, in my hand I have Elizabeth Cassidy's will. Each of you are here today because she left you all something. The first person listed on her will are her two parents. The will reads: 'To my two loving parents, I leave you with my furniture, the deed to my home, and my photo albums.' The next person mentioned is Hailey Sanez who is left with the rights to Elizabeth's boutique. Mary Lins has been given Elizabeth's stock in Apple. Tiffany Reed is to be given Elizabeth's childhood toys for her baby girl on the way. Tessa Thurman has been given Cosmo and Wanda, the Cassidy's two golden retrivers." he stated. I smiled at the names of my two dogs. When I was younger, I was obsessed with The Fairly Odd Parents and immediately called them Cosmo and Wanda. "And finally, Elizabeth leaves her clothes, car, jewlry, wedding dress, family videos, and all her money to her daughter, Lena Cassidy." The lawyer finished. He didn't have to explain to us where to get all of the things, we already knew where we had to go to get them. My house. Well, it now belonged to my grandparents. I couldn't believe she gave me her car though. See, my mom owns a boutique...in Beverley Hills. And in this boutique, many people go there, giving my mom money. Just enough money to have a Porshe.
I turned to Tessa, pushing the thoughts of my new car to the back of my head. "What were you saying before?" I asked.
"Right. I'm going to tell you the whole story okay?" she asked. I nodded. "It all started two months ago. Your mother told me that she was dying from the cancer and only had about three months left. Well, that's what she had been told by the doctor. She asked me how to break it to you and I couldn't give her any advice. I'm sorry, I feel as though she didn't tell you cause I didn't give her an idea. But about two weeks later, I get another call from her, saying its been changed to two. They had missed a growing tumor before. She called me saying that I would be in her will and that I better show up or she'll be very disappointed. She also called to talk about you. Your mother loved you very much. She knew that after she died, you would only have your grandparents. Lena, do you know where your mother got all those clothes from?" she asked me.
I nodded. My mother carried only the most brilliant designer in the world, T.T. Tessa smiled. "That would be my line of clothing." she said. My jaw dropped. "Yes, I know. Shocking isn't it? She sells clothes and I design them. We truely were best friends. Anyway, she knew I had more than enough room in my home. So, that's when she asked if you could come and live with me in Florida once she died. And I didn't even have to think about it. I said yes immediately." Tessa said.
