"Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder"

this is the guard who was fighting Iris.

--

Everyone was afraid of being beautiful. Those who were, tend to disappear and never be heard from again.

The people in my town wondered how this was possible, some even presented themselves to face the unexplainable head first with a brave face painted on. I thought it was idiotic to put themselves in a vulnerable position. Maybe it was because they would do anything to get away from our poverty, or maybe it was because they liked the sheer thrill of exploring the unknown.Either way they were the prey, not the predator. Merely a sheep in a wolf's territory. Incredibly low IQed men and women committing suicide.

Those of us who cared about living hid from any type of exposure to the royals and their bigoted guards.

We did this by wearing extensive amounts of makeup, prosthetics, and where hats and hoodies to cover ourselves as much as we could. We looked like the men and women in the 2010's Alice in Wonderland, though a little less dramatic.

The Royals did random inspections in schools across the country to see what kind of natural beauty they could find. At least that's what i was told they secretly did doing those school safety inspections. And they snatch you from your bed when everyone is sleeping, no traces of them ever being there.

Some people say if you're hidden well enough in the shadows of the buildings, the royal guards will walk past you searching for the beautiful men and women that are rarely seen in daylight.

---

As i applied my seventh layer of mascara on my left eye a girl no older than myself barged in the bathroom. Her hair disheveled her breathing was labored, "get out of here, the Royals are down the hall. This time no girl is safe."

My body decided to freeze then, "w-what do you mean? We were checked last week, by the guards. This shouldn't be possible, it can't. I haven't finished, i-"

She pushed my towards the window that was a foot above me, "You have to leave, they're looking for girls that fit your description, I'll help you get out. We haven't got much time."

That's when i noticed the red marks on her arms, handprints to be exact. Large hand prints that were slowly turning into a bluish purple. Her eyes crazed and slightly red, signs of crying and freight show.

"But what about you? Your-"

"Can you just please listen, they're bound to come in... we have seconds." she hurriedly locked her hands and lowered herself towards the ground next to the window to give me a boost, "hurry." she demanded.

I finally snapped out of my daze and used her boost to reach the window that was no larger than two basketballs in height and three in size. I unlocked the hatch and used my strength to get on the sill of the window when the doors busted open.

A man's grunt and a loud yell came from behind. "Hey! Get down from there."

I turned around to see three royal guards and rottweilers next to them. They were all well built and equipped with cuffs, tasers, and guns.

I gasped, within seconds they charge at the two of us. Pushing open the window i was halfway out, a shrill scream came from the girl who helped me, accompanied by a loud thud. Someone had grabbed my leg as i was almost out.

The guard pulled, bringing me almost two thirds back in the bathroom. The dogs barked loudly, my heart pounded as i struggled to fight back with my legs only. Adrenaline coursed through my veins as i wildly kicked back at the guard.
