Niall’s POV
“Is Miss Liberty finally awake?”
“How do you feel about the criminals only getting life sentences?”
“Is it true Liberty is now your fiancée?”
“How did you get involved with gangs?”
“Are your fans safe Mr Horan!”
“How did Miss Liberty get involved with gangs?”
“Are you apart of a gang?”
My hoodie blocked my face from the paparazzi as they shouted questions pushing each other trying to get closer. My eyes burned as I held back the tears, couldn’t they leave me in peace? The girl I loved had been in a coma for eight months with no sign of waking up anytime soon.
Couldn’t they leave me be? Couldn’t they see I was hurting? Why was the world against Liberty and me so much? Why couldn’t we just have a normal life?
I entered the hospital my hands in my pockets as they shook violently. Tears gathered in my eyes and my vision blurred, security guards rushed past me and outside to get rid of the paparazzi.
“Oh Niall…”
“Don’t,” I pleaded quietly. “I don’t want to talk about it; I just want to see her.”
“This isn’t healthy,” Janice’s voice spoke again her hands yanking my head back her worries eyes scanning my face.
She was right, it wasn’t healthy. I had spent most of the last eight months never leaving Liberty’s side; I would then go home for a couple of hours sleep to come back again. Bags were under my eyes, my skin was pale and my once muscular body was getting slimmer. All in all I looked terrible.
“Please,” my voice cracked as more tears gathered in my eyes. “Tell me she’s getting better.”
Her grey eyes filled with sympathy and she gave me a weak smile. “She will wake up when she’s ready sweetie we need to give her time.”
“I’ve given her eight months,” I snarled tears dripping my cheeks. “Why won’t she wake up!”
We started the long winding walk through the hospital. “Give it a rest,” she sighed. “Niall that girl went through hell and back, why do you think her Dad called me all the way from London?”
I frowned. “I never did get that.”
“I treated her,” she said and my heart froze. “When she first came here, her arms were trashed. I did my best to heal them but no point, then when she went over the cliff, she came back even worse. That girl is more than just a fighter, she’s a survivor and this time she has something to live for.”
“I want her to wake up,” I whimpered softly. “I want her to wake up so I can love her.”
“She will,” she gave me a quick hug before walking into a room. The room that held Liberty.
I couldn’t do it; I couldn’t walk in there once again just to see her lying there. I wanted to see her smiling back at me, to see her love for me shine her beautiful eyes. Why was fate so cruel?
Lan came out the room, his eyes hard. “Hey N.”
A sob tore through me. While I was here crying over the fact I couldn’t get my love back, Lan had lost his twin. How could I have been so selfish?
“I’m so sorry.”
His arms brought me into a hug. “I don’t blame you. I blame those b*astards who took her from us.”
“It’s all my fault.” I whisphered. “I should have done something, anything then this would never have happened, we would never have lost her.”
“Everything happens for a reason N,” he pulled back giving me a weak smile. “Go see her, so might be able to hear you.” Then we was gone, basically running down the halls.
I took a deep breath before bursting through the doors. The walls looked the same, so did the girl lying on the plan bed. Her once wavy blonde hair looked limp, her face pale and her lips slightly parted, the only sign to show she was still stuck to this planet was the slight rising of her chest.
“Talk to her Niall, coma patients have been known to be able to hear people.”
“What if she can’t, what if they only thing that’s left of her is her body? What if I’ve lost my Liberty for good?”
“Trust me,” she smiled and quickly left the room.
“Please wake up,” I spoke after a moment. “If you’re doing this because I’ve caused all of this then I deserve it. But please, I can’t bear to lose you, please come back to me.” I moved so I was sitting next to her grasping her hand in mine. “I miss you, I miss seeing you smile at me, I miss kissing you and just holding you. I love you Liberty.” My voice broke. “And I always will, so please wake up.”
I shut my eyes and laid my head on the bed. Then sleep took me.
*
I groaned, something was poking me, and not too lightly either. Something was poking my cheek, and every time I frowned or shielded away a light laugh filled the quiet room. It happened again.
“Stop it,” I mumbled. “I’m sleeping.”
“Well then wake up,” a playful voice said before light kisses were pressed all over my face. “Wake up my love.”
“Tired,” I yawned snuggling deeper into the covers. “Go to sleep.”
“I’ve slept to long my love, and I’ve missed you so wake up.”
My eyes fluttered open and latched onto the grinning girl, my face paled and my heart stopped.
Impossible.
