You and Sal had been going out now for almost a year. It had been absolutely amazing to be dating someone as funny as him, but there were a couple things that you always worried about. You tried to let it not bother you, but sometimes it was too difficult.

You were hosting a game night at your apartment which is something you rarely do. It would be a small group of people: Sal, Sal's sister, Q, Murr, Joe, and Bessie. You all got along really well and could talk for hours upon hours without getting bored of each other. Everyone had some sort of funny story every time you saw them. Usually game nights were held at Joe and Bessie's because they had Milana, but Joe's parents offered to watch her for the weekend now that she was a little bit older.

Everyone was coming over around 7pm and you'd order pizzas and have snacks. It was around 5:15pm, so you decided to run over to the convenience store on the corner of your block. You loved that about New York; you could walk for 5 minutes and pass about 10 convenience stores. You just wanted to grab a couple bags of chips and a few different sodas. You walked into the store. It smelled strongly of alcohol, but you expected that, it was New York after all. You quickly went over to the aisle with chips and snacks. You picked up a bag of classic chips, barbecue chips, cheese curls, and you decided to grab a bag of M&Ms to put out. Then you went over to the freezers with the sodas. You picked up a Pepsi and root beer. You had other drinks back at the apartment so you figured that you didn't need to buy a ton of sodas. You went up and paid and then walked back to your apartment. You didn't have that much to set up. You decided to order the pizzas around 6:30 so they would be ready when everyone arrived. In the other room, your phone started to ring. It was Sal. You were a little confused as to why he'd be calling you just an hour or so before you'd see him.

"Hey, what's up?" you asked him.

"I wanted to know if you needed some help setting up or if you needed company,"

"I think I've set up all I need to for now, but I could always use some company,"

"Okay, I'll be over in a little bit,"

"Wait, Sal, you've never been in my apartment for more than 5 minutes,"

"Yeah, and...?"

"It's just, I know you don't like cats that's all and you've never met Mudgie. I don't want you to be freaked out by her. She's really a sweetheart,"

"I'll be okay, I'll have people to protect me from her." Sal explained. You chuckled. You thought it was kind of cute that someone like Sal would be afraid of cats.

"Okay then," you replied with a slight laugh in your voice.

"So I'll see you in a bit,"

"Sounds good," you confirmed.

Your cat Mudgie really was a sweetheart. She never bit or clawed anyone and she basically loved everyone. Now if you told Sal those exact words, you knew he wouldn't believe you and just tell you that's what everyone says about their cat. You went to feed Mudgie before everyone came over. As soon as you opened the food container, she ran into the room, meowing and rubbing against your leg.

"Hi honey-boo" you said to Mudgie in a baby voice. She started purring loudly. You set her dish on the floor and she trotted over to it excitedly. There was a knock on your door and Mudgie looked up. You wiped off your hands and ran over to the door.

"Hey Sal!"

"Hey babe," he gave you a big hug. You backed up. Sal made direct eye contact with Mudgie. Mudgie didn't seem to care about Sal at all. Sal glared at you and you rolled your eyes at him jokingly. By now it was almost 6:30 so you texted everyone who was coming to reply with what kind of pizza they'd want. Luckily your friends were quite simple with pizza, agreeing to get 2 plain pizzas and one with pepperoni. Another great thing about living in New York was there were great pizza places about every other block. You called in the order and they said it would be ready in 20 minutes. You and Sal sat on the couch and opened one of the bags of chips and just talked until you had to go pick up the pizzas. Mudgie decided to hop up on the couch between you and Sal.
