It was about a week away from Valentine's Day and you knew how you wanted to celebrate it. It was your 7th Valentine's Day since you and Joe started dating and you truly believed that that day was the best possible day to finally propose to the man of your dreams. About a year or so before that, you both talked about the possibility of getting married. He confessed to you that marriage was something that he would really enjoy, but he was also a little uneasy about it. To you that meant that you had to be the one to bring it up again. You knew it was a little unusual for a girl to propose to a guy but you wanted to go for it anyway.
You wanted to have a really creative speech and you thought of different ways you could ask him. He had been asking you what you wanted to do on Valentine's Day and you always replied with an, "I don't know." You wanted to have your idea planned out before you talked to Joe about plans for that day.
It took a few days of planning, but you had your idea of how you were going to propose. That morning you would give him a little bag with specific candies and other sweets in it. Those candies would all be part of your proposal speech. Since Joe also loved a good pun, you wanted to throw some of those in as well. You wanted your speech to be funny but also sweet (no pun intended). A few days before Valentine's Day you had the majority of your speech planned out for him. You wanted to incorporate a lot of personal things into the speech too. You wanted to be as creative as possible without seeming too cheesy.
A few days before Valentine's Day you went over to the store to pick up some of the candies you had in mind. You also wanted to check out other types of candies to see if there was anyway that you could tie them into the speech too. You also bought a little bag with hearts on it so they would be presented in a festive manner.
One day while Joe was out filming you put everything together. You wrapped the candy bars in wrapping paper separately and numbered them so he could follow along with the speech and not try to guess the next part. You wrote out your speech on paper. You carefully reread it a few times to make sure that it was absolutely perfect. It took some time to memorize the whole thing, but you kept thinking about it so you would remember it as well as possible on Valentine's Day. You have even had the ring to propose to Joe with for months now. You have wanted to pop the question for a long time but ultimately decided to wait until a specific time to do so. You found it difficult to hide the bag in a place where the candy wouldn't melt that Joe wouldn't find it before the big day. You had kept the ring box in your nightstand and as far as you know, Joe had never seen it. You hid the candy in a cabinet that was really high up in the kitchen. Neither of you liked using it. You did have to stand on a chair to be able to reach it, but it was worth it since he would have no reason to go in that cabinet.
When Joe got home that day from filming, he asked you again if you knew what you wanted to do for Valentine's Day. You knew you wanted to propose to him in the morning. You told him you wanted to go out to coffee and you wanted to give him his gift then. He agreed and liked the idea. After breakfast you would go to your favorite coffee shop. That's when you would propose to him.
At first you were nervous to propose to him in a public place. You were slightly nervous that he would decline and it would be embarrassing. You knew that you were both happy together and he eventually would want to get married. A lot of people get nervous before proposing so that also made you relax a little bit.
On Valentine's Day you woke up a little nervous. You didn't want Joe to be suspicious about why you were nervous. As far as he knew, it would be just like a date. You woke up and got out of bed before Joe did. You took a shower and put on one of your favorite light pink dresses with a grey cardigan over it. You went out into the living room and recited to your speech to yourself. You heard Joe get in the shower. One of your dogs came and sat with you on the couch and you pet her and kissed her head.
