A/N: this story takes place in the early 90's so I tried to incorporate some 90's slang into this although I didn't know a lot of it.

"Excuse me, do you know where room A117 is?" You heard a male voice ask you. You look up and make eye contact with the guy.

"Yes. From here, you go left down this hall, follow it to the end, and then go up the stairs and it is the first room on your right. What class do you have there?" You ask him.

"Uhh," the boy began. He uncrumpled a piece of paper with his schedule. "Chemistry, 5th period. Is that next?"

"Oh my goodness, I'm in that class too! My name is y/n."

"I'm Sal, nice to meet you," he says while smiling.

"Fifth period is next, so we can walk together!"

"Thank you for the help, I just transferred here from another school. I've lived in Staten Island all of my life, though."

"Not a problem. I know how you feel. I transferred here halfway through freshman year, so probably almost a year ago. If I could give any advice, it would be to branch out and find different types people to hang out with."

"That's a good idea," Sal said. The bell rang to go to 5th period. You and Sal walked to chemistry together.

On the short walk, you learned a bit about Sal and he told you that he has 2 sisters and he sometimes hated it. You told him that you have 2 older brothers and you also don't like it. When you got to class, Sal went to introduce himself to your teacher, Mrs. Davis. The desk next to you had been empty all year so that was where she had told Sal that he could sit.

Mrs. Davis began her lesson which was in the middle of a unit. Sal was noticeably very confused so you slid him your notes from the previous lessons. He tried to copy down what was most important and listen to Mrs. Davis at the same time. You whispered to tell him to not worry too much about listening to the lesson and you would give him all of your notes and help him catch up one day. He seemed more relaxed after that.

The lecture took up the entire class period and Mrs. Davis announced that your class would be doing an experiment the next day.

"Lab partners?" You asked Sal.

"Definitely, yeah," he replied happily.

You help Sal get to his next class and then you continue to go to study hall. During that period, you had nothing to work on immediately. You wrote out some organized notes for Mrs. Davis' lecture to give to Sal. The unit was stoichiometry and the lesson was about balancing equations. On the left side of the page, you wrote down some tips to make the equation look less daunting. Then, you wrote down the steps to take to work through the different types of reactions. After you finished that, you did practice problems, working each of them out as an example. It was a little overboard, but you really enjoyed chemistry and you thought this would make his life a bit easier.

When the bell rang to go to your next class, you put the note sheets in your folder and went to English. You sat in your normal seat and took out your notebook for the class. Your friend, Q, walked in and was talking to someone. You noticed that it was Sal. Nice, we have two classes together! you thought to yourself. Q came back to his seat which was next to yours and Sal came and joined you after he said hello to your English teacher.
