You and Joe met in your sophomore year in high school and instantly clicked and became close friends despite attending different schools. During the summers you would hang out with him at least once a week. You and Joe lived fairly close to each other so you would often go over to each other's houses. In the summer before your senior year, you and Joe went to a small cafe and talked for a while. It had been a long time since the last time you saw each other. You spent about an hour sitting and chatting before you had to leave. You said your goodbyes and you both left the cafe. Before you each went your own way, he turned around and called out,
"Wait, y/n!". You turn around and walk towards him.
"Yeah, what's up?" You answer, wondering if something was wrong.
"I've been meaning to ask you something, but I've been too anxious," he began. You got nervous, but you knew what he was going to ask, it was a little more obvious recently, "Will you be my girlfriend?"
You smiled at him and of course you said yes.
-Three Years Later-
Now, you and Joe shared an apartment in uptown Manhattan. It was your three years anniversary of when you started dating. Every anniversary, you would go out somewhere but it wasn't something you would spend weeks planning. In fact, it was the morning of when you decided what to do. Your plan was to take the subway down to Central Park, find a little bakery, and walk through the park for a while. Living in uptown Manhattan meant that you were pretty far from downtown. You and Joe agreed to leave after breakfast so you could catch a subway train that wasn't super crowded.
After breakfast, you got in the shower and got ready for the day. You picked out a light flowy green shirt and skinny jeans with Converse. Joe was wearing his light purple button down shirt and jeans with Adidas sneakers. You both wanted to keep it casual.
When you were both ready to go, you grabbed your keys and purse and headed out. You walked a block to the nearest subway station. Those stations gave you the jitters because they smelled nasty and were filthy, however they were the most convenient way to navigate the city. The station was very crowded which was unusual. "Oh well" you thought. To you it didn't matter so much that it was busy, as long as you could spend the day with Joe. You scanned your cards and went to the platform where the subway would be. The speaker above you was announcing something but they were never audible. Whatever it was, it wasn't good news because you heard several people groan.
"Did you hear what the announcement said?" You asked Joe. Maybe he heard.
"No, sorry honey, they're insanely difficult to understand," he replied. You reassured him that it was okay. The train squealed as it came to a stop. It was a terrible noise, but it was one that you were used to after years of living in NYC. Looking into the doors that slid open you saw that there were a ton of people already on the train. You and Joe had to make a quick decision whether to hop on this already crowded train or to wait until the next one came along. Despite the fact that there were way too many people on the train, you and Joe ultimately decided to get on anyway. You weren't going too far and you hoped it would be a quick ride.
Being on the subway made you a little anxious no matter how packed it was. You felt as if you had to constantly be watching out to make sure that you're safe, even though most people on the train were reading or asleep. It was very compact and being underground made the feeling of the walls closing in even more realistic. On this train, you figured everyone would start to feel the same way as you. It was cramped and there was nowhere to stabilize yourself when the train began to move again. You held Joe's hand hoping that somehow he could help. Being claustrophobic and on a jam-packed train was not a good mix. You started to shake a little bit, which Joe noticed.
"Honey, what's wrong?" He asked you. You looked back at him trying to put on a brave face, "Claustrophobic. Too many people, not enough space," you explained to him. He nodded his head. He knew that you had a slight problem with claustrophobia and some things would set it off really badly. This was one of those things. He hugged you in an attempt to comfort you and make you feel safe. You could barely even move. You tried to get closer to him and you rested your head on his chest. He made sure that you felt as comfortable as possible given the situation.
At the next stop, a ton of people got off the train, giving you space to move a little bit more. You grabbed onto one of the railings so you could easily stay balanced. Joe held your other hand. He knew that you were still a little uncomfortable because there were a lot of people on the train even after a lot got off it. It was unusually crowded.
The next stop was your stop. You and Joe wiggled your way through the many people on the train just to get out. Once you were off the train, it felt like you could breathe again. You got up the steps and walked a block or so to Central Park. You two found a place in the shade to sit.
"I hope the train wasn't too bad. I feel like I forced us to go and not wait," Joe started to apologize. You didn't know why he felt this bad. It wasn't his fault that the subway was packed.
"Joe, you didn't force it upon me to go on the subway. I felt comfortable with you there with me. I really appreciated it," you replied. You smiled at him.
"I love you and I'd never want to do something that would put you in a bad situation," Joe said.
"I love you too. I know you're always there for me when inevitable things happen like that though." You kissed him and he kissed you back. It was a very gentle moment, something you wouldn't forget. That's why you started dating Joe in first place. He was always there for you and would be understanding. You and Joe walked around Central Park a bit more. To your surprise, there was a little café. You both got coffees and Joe got a donut (which you ended up taking half of). After walking for another while, you find another spot in the grass to sit. You talked about how happy you were together and Joe brought up a bunch of memories from when you were teenagers. It was a really nice time. At lunchtime, Joe found a small casual deli and you both thought it would be neat to try it since it was a new place for you both.
After lunch, you and Joe made the trek back to your apartment. The trains on the way home weren't nearly as bad as they were coming down. When you got back to the apartment, you crashed on the couch. You were exhausted even though it wasn't a long day. Joe curled up next to you and you both fell asleep. When you woke up, you both made dinner together and watched movies until you fell asleep for the night.
A/N: This is a really short imagine compared to my other ones. I can't think of much to write about with Joe (requests are always open for Joe). I feel weird writing some knowing that he's married. Requests are still open for Q and Murr too! I already have a few requests for Sal so I won't be taking more for a little bit. Remember to vote and comment! Thank you!!
