Mami works as a nurse. After she got her SATs  she went to college to get her nursing degree. Being a nurse isn't dangerous, but things happen at hospitals. I've heard my full share of horror stories there.

Pacing isn't gonna help, I scold myself. I glance at the wall clock 12:30 AM. No way. I'm just call her and make sure she's ok. Maybe she's working overnight. Yep, she's probably coming back in the morning.

Grabbing the phone I dial her cell-phone number. It rings forever before she picks up.

"Mami? When are you coming home?"

"Isabella!!" she screeches. I hear her freeze in her tracks. "What happened!?"

"Nothing I just got worried-"

"About what?!"

"You."

"Oh honey, I'll be back at 4:00 (AM)"

"You won't work tomorrow right?"

"No." She starts walking again.

"Good because that'd be abuse."

Mami laughs, I hear the exhaustion in her voice. That stinkin' co-worker fronting on my Mama.

"All right mila, try to get some sleep. Imma call on my way in. OK?"

"Ok." I breathe out.

"I love you, Izzy."

"Love ya too." I press the end the button. I walk slowly back to our bedroom feeling lonely. I climb under the covers and it takes forever for me to fall asleep.

The sound of the phone awakes me. I jump up still half asleep and grab it off my nightstand. It's Mami.

"Mila please stand by the door so you can unlock it as soon as I come upstairs. I'm right around the corner."

"Ok." I stand up and run to door.

Peeking out the window, I watch Mami park further up the street, something she never does. She jumps out of the car presses the lock button and dashes towards the house. I feel the hairs on my neck rise. Who is running away from.

I unlock the door as I hear her footsteps on the stairs. She comes in looking shaken.

"Mami!" I shut and lock the door behind her. "What happened?"

"Basically, I dropped my co-worker off and some car tried to block my car from driving out the street.  I speed out on the sidewalk and flagged down a cop. He said he'd take care of it. But I'm still scared." She hangs up her coat and pulls me into a hug. "Mila you have no idea how scared I was."

"I was terrified at 12:00."

Mami smiles. "That's the end of night shifts. Come on. Let's go to bed."

Yay! I finished this chapter. Whew! I thought I'd have to stop my siblings were ya know bickering... :) Anyways thank you for reading. XOXOX dolly.
