"Lock the door behind me." Mami says for the zillionth time as she puts her coast on. "If you feel weird call Nina. Don't open the door for anyone we are expecting any guests. I'll call you if Nina says she's coming over. Don't stay up to late." She kisses my cheek. "And there is pepper spray under my pillow."

"Ok." I breathe out. "Don't worry. I"ll be fine."

I follow her down the main staircase and lock the door behind her. Then running as fast as I can I bolt back upstairs and lock the door behind me. I have no idea why heart is beating so fast.

It's 12:00 AM and Mami isn't home yet. I was stupid enough to let her leave without asking her when she'd be back. I scold myself.

I cleaned the kitchen and straightened up the living room. The apartment is quiet but I still can't sleep. Mami isn't home.

I know she's probably at work. But that doesn't mean she's safe.
