It has been nine days since the world has gone to hell, and "Judgement Day" began. When York first heard of the virus spreading, he and his brother went to the local radio station, broadcasting "that people should head to northwestern Wisconsin. It is safe there, and that the infected will not come there for the lack of population."
York and his brother head back home, on the outskirts of the now abandoned village of Exeland.
The first people to show up were Emmalynn Michele and Alex Roush, who likes to be called Roush. They are both fellow classmates of York's high school.
"How are you guys?" Asks York.
"Well, Roush and I stayed together after high school, and we were supposed to get married, but our pastor went nuts." Answers Emmalynn.
"You mean he became a "Rager"?" Questions York.
"I guess," says Emmalynn, "How did you get that name?"
"You been hearing the news, with the DEAD facility being attacked? I was a scientist for the department."
"Oh, so you knew about this disease!" yells Emmalynn.
"Not exactly." York answers, "I have been out of the Paris Facility for a little over three months."
The next person was Michael Roach, who never left the area after high school, just hunting and fishing the Blue Hills.
"How are you Michael?"
"Same old, same old." Explains Michael.
Josh Kelley, who was the janitor in their high school and a former classmate of York's.
Then, a few days later, a few more of York's classmates, Nathan Henders and Kaitlyn McCallister, who were in the area, hiding with family, when they heard York's broadcast.
David Jones and Andrew Garrys showed up then from college and work after seeing the news in Eurasia and hearing York's broadcast.
Finally, to show up was Leon Hendrickson, who was home with family from college in Japan, and Chuck Samson, who was one of York's high school English teacher.
When everybody showed up, York then guided them all to his house, where he had begun a camp for outbreak refugees. York has already got a couple of RVs and then there are some fortification walls around York's house. Everybody piled in, and then Emmalynn asked York and Nicholas, "Where is your grandma?"
"She finally gave the house to me about seven years ago, and about five years ago she and Gary died about a few months apart." York responds.
"I'm sorry about your grandma and I give my condolences." Says Emmalynn.
"Tis alright." retorts York.

For the next four and a half months, York and the group fortify the camp and build two guard towers. Emmalynn and Michael call being the people in the two guard towers. Mr. Samson decides that he will go out and scavenge for supplies. Andrew and David started the building, since they are architects. Roush sets up a little farm on York's land, and York begins working on trying to find the whereabouts of the vaccine.
York found out that when the eco-terrorists blew up a building, unbeknownst to them, it was the building where the vaccine was stored.
York then began trying to track down the other scientists, but finds out that he was the only one left from DEAD, and he is only a junior scientist/intern. Nicholas then goes into York's lab and sees York messing with some vials. "York!" yells Nick. "What are you doing?"
"I am trying to get a vaccination for the virus." Explains York. "It is possibly the only thing left that can save humanity."
"How could a vaccine save humanity?" asks Nick.
"When I was in the DEAD Paris Facility, the gorillas and chimpanzees that had the vaccine injected into them, they became virtually invisible to the infected apes." Explains York. "But Paris was the only one with the vaccine."
"York, what are you going to do?" asks Nicholas.
"Well, I am going to go down to the CDC Facility in Atlanta." York tells his little brother.
"Why there?" wonders Nick out loud. "Why do you have to go to Atlanta?"
"I have to go and get some vaccines of Ebola/Zika, Black Plague, Mad Cow, and Rabies." Answers York.
"Well, you are not going alone." Retorts Nick.
"Fine, you have two weeks to get ready for the expedition."
.................................................................................................................
About a week later, Mr. Samson decides to go out scavenging for supplies. Michael quips that he will join Mr. Samson, since he is the hunter and all. So, Mr. Samson and Michael go out to Ladysmith to the Walmart there. As they were leaving Mr. Samson and Michael hear a bloodcurdling scream in the distance.
"What the hell was that?!" Screams Michael.
"I don't know," answers Mr. Samson. "But I think we should get out of here now!"
The two got to the McDonald's when they notice thirty Ragers running towards them. Michael screams, "Run!!" And they start running back to the Kwik Trip, where their vehicles are. About the end of the McDonald's parking lot, Mr. Samson has to stop for he is older than Michael and his right knee is hurting. "Michael, Stop! Please!" begs Mr. Samson.
"Fine." mutters Michael. He turns around, and there are the ragers. "Sorry Chuck." says Michael. He grabs the supplies off of Mr. Samson and cocks his pistol and shoots Mr. Samson in the knee and runs to his vehicle. When He pulls out of the Kwik Trip, he sees the Ragers swarm Mr. Samson, and during all that hears him scream. The Ragers pounce on the teacher, and his screams die with the wind and Michael speeding away.
