No, get away from me! No!

Lisa's eyes popped wide open, her body soaked in sweat. She heaved a sigh of relief as she realized she was only dreaming. She looked at her little clock on the side of her bed. It read 5:30 am.

She had to be up by 5:45. She scratched her eyes and she blew out air from her mouth,
She fell back into the bed and the moment her head hit the pillow, she dozed off again.

2 hours later...

Lisa woke up leaving slightly out of place. She realized what had woken her up; her phone was ringing aloud Ed Sheeran's "castle on the hills" at its loudest volume. She picked up the phone with her left-hand, rubbing her forehead with the other.

'Hello,' she said rather groggily into the phone.

'Hey it's me, Debbie, are you picking me up on your way to school?"

'Of course, I am, couldn't you just have called closer to school hours?' she said sighing deeply and closing her eyes. There was silence at the other end before Lisa heard a shriek that threatened to blow her ear drums away. She immediately removed the phone from her ears almost in a reflex action.

'What the hell Deb?' Lisa said, sitting up very much awake now.

'Look at your time Lisa' Deb said, sounding like a very quiet human. Lisa glanced at the phone to check the time and this time, the shriek came from her as Deb giggled over the phone.

'Let it all out babe' Deb said still giggling as she hung up.

15 minutes and 27 seconds later...

Lisa pressed the horn outside Deb's house as Debbie peeped through the curtains surprised as hell to see her friend just outside her apartment just 15 minutes after speaking to her. She got out fully dressed already and made her way to where Lisa's car was.

Dropping into the shotgun while suppressing a smile, she turned to look at her friend and her doubts were confirmed.

Scattered hair, red puffy eyes and a face without make-up, Lisa practically looked like a scarecrow.

'Girl, ain't no way you are going to school looking like that' Deb said, her eyes widening imagining the impending chaos that would befall them upon entry in school.

'Oh you know I don't really care about all that' Lisa said dismissing her friend with a wave of the hand.

Deb's eyes widened even more, her eyes looking like saucers now.

'I know, but this is extreme' she said waving her hands in the air.

'This is a disaster. You can't go to school looking like this'

Lisa rolled her eyes.

'We can't be late for school, we have only 12 minutes left. Don't worry, you can always do some magic on me. You got the rest of your life to try' Lisa said suddenly pressing the accelerator lurching the car into full speed leaving Debbie clutching the door of the car.

Crayston was a beautiful town, maybe large enough to be referred to as a city. It was commercially booming and it was clear that the people living in this town were clearly hard-working. The special thing about Crayston was the massive amount of tall trees located far north in this town.

The town was also home to a high school and a college/university. The latter was where Lisa and Deb were headed for the first time. They had both grown up in this town and knew it better than most people. Best friends since childhood, they had both resolved in their hearts that they would go to the local university and that wish had been granted.

The town also had everything in terms of races; coloured people, Hispanic etc. The town was diverse in subtle little ways which kept it bubbling with life.

Lisa took a deep breath as her car slowly glided into the school premises. It was the start of school and everyone was scrambling to get to class.

'This is it Lisa' Deb said a bit nervously.

'Yep,' Lisa said staring at the large crowd of people suddenly wishing she had taken her friend's advice on her appearance.

'Hey' Debbie said turning to face Lisa, a worried look on her face.

'Yeah?' Lisa said turning to face her too.

'Promise me that no matter what happens, we will stay friends forever' she said extending her little finger.

Lisa smiled and extended her finger too.

'Pinky swear, we would be best friends forever'

Debbie smiled as they both stepped out of the car.
