I Love You

Twenty-Three

Nine

After our conversation with Agent Walker, we were escorted upstairs to our quarters. Each of us were given our own rooms, which included their own bathroom and free mini bar. At least, I hoped they were free. They had filled our closet with new clothes before they had brought us to our assigned rooms and asked for us to behave for the night. For some reason, I was singled out and told not to leave my room. Unbeknownst to them, I was a shitty listener.

I hated being held by these people. I was itching to get out of here and be alone for a few moments, but even in my bedroom, the silence was becoming deafening. I had lost my ability to be alone and  silent as I paced in front of the queen-sized bed. All I wanted to do was to run along the sides of the building and do parkour in the park. I wanted to train for our final battle with the Mog bastards, or even just go after them right now. But I knew I was exhausted, physically and mentally. We needed the rest.

That doesn't mean I was happy about it.

So I laid on the bed and stared at the white painted ceiling, trying to force my body to shut down. Just go to sleep, Nine. A dreamless, deep sleep.

That didn't work. Of course.

Finally, what felt like an eternity later, I jumped up and decided to break the rules. Shocking. I confidently made my way towards my door and swung it open, not even bothering to look and see if anyone was patrolling outside. Why would they be?

"Hey, you!" A gruff voice called from down the hall. I heard his heavy footsteps coming towards me as I turned. He was a tall guy, no more than five years older than me, with close cropped dark hair. His suit jacket had been discarded, giving me full view of the pistol he had his hand on. "You aren't supposed to come out of your rooms."

"I, um" - I reached back into the room and snagged the black ice bucket with my telekinesis. As soon as the cool black plastic touched my hand, I held it out for him to see. "I came to get some ice. I figured since our rooms were like a hotel's, you would have an ice maker around here somewhere, right?"

He frowned at me. "Let me get it for you."

"Look, Dude." I sighed as I shut the door behind me. He was a few inches taller than me, but he wasn't wider than a toothpick. I could easily take him - gun or no gun - , but I didn't figure the others would appreciate me beating this guy up. "I've been cooped up in that room for hours, and I need to stretch my legs. See a change of scenery. Have a conversation. Something. I mean, this is practically inhumane."

We locked eyes for a moment before he gave in, glancing around to see if any other agents were around.

"Make it quick."

I grinned before jogging away. He knew I wasn't going to get ice, so I didn't care if he saw what I did or where I went.

They had roomed the girls on the opposite end of the halls to keep the horny teenagers away from each other, especially Sam and Six. I hurried down to the farthest room and knocked, looking back down the hallway only to find that the agent had disappeared momentarily. After a second, I heard a rustling before the door cracked. I grinned, holding the bucket behind my back.

"Hey, you," Madeleine whispered as she opened the door and leaned against the door frame. "What are you doing here? I thought you weren't supposed to leave your room."

"I'm not," I grinned mischievously. "Can I come in?"

Madeleine rolled her eyes, smiling, as she walked away, leaving me to follow her like the puppy-dog that I was. I shut the door behind me as she sat on the foot of her bed, kicking off a pair of fuzzy slippers so that she could sit Indian-style. She patted the spot in front of her, which I gladly obliged to lay on after I tossed the empty ice bucket on the floor. She smiled beautifully as she pulled her hair back in a loose bun, while a few curls still fluttered around her face. She was wearing a pair of red plaid pajama pants with a black tank top that I couldn't help glancing at every now and then. She was so pretty when she smiled, I wished I could stare at it all day...
