Paisley had to walk away. For the sake of Rosabeth's life and Paisley's freedom from death row she had to walk away for a moment. What the actual hell? Why was she doing this?
Paisley leaned over, put her hands on her knees and took a few deep breaths. She tried to calm herself down. Chillax, girl, she told herself. It was only a letter from her mother. It wasn't like Rosabeth was cheating on her. Then again, with Rosabeth being so furtive she wouldn't put that past her.
She went back to her girlfriend who was still sitting on the picnic blanket, eating (why is that a surprise?). "Rosie, how on this good green earth did you not tell your parents that you were gay?"
Rosabeth shrugged. "I don't know. It never came up."
Paisley did her best to wrap her head around that. "Seriously? It never came up so you, oh I don't know, never even thought to actually bring it up?"
"You'd think that, wouldn't you?" Rosie nodded as she reached for her salad.
"Rosabeth," Paisley took another deep breath. "Give me one, just one good reason why I shouldn't strangle you?"
"Because you love me."
"Why wouldn't you tell them?" Paisley asked. "I told mine as soon as I knew. Didn't you think your parents wouldn't accept it?"
Rosabeth kept on concentrating on her food and Paisley felt like smacking it out of her hands and giving her a shake. This was important! Paisley wanted an explanation and Rosabeth wanted food. It drove her beyond crazy.
"Hellooo, Rosie. Talk to me. What's going on?"
Finally Rosabeth put her food down. She wiped her mouth while trying to come up with something to say.
"Okay," she said. "Here's the deal. I never told them about you or any of my ex girlfriends. . ."
"Ex girlfriends?" Paisley said in surprise. "I only knew about the one in Appoloosa. How many do you have?"
"Not the point here. We'll get back to that later. Anyway, I didn't tell them cause I didn't think they would approve. They wanted to marry me off to this guy back home."
"So tell them no thanks to the guy. How hard is that?"
"Well, my parents are very old school," Rosabeth said. "They just wouldn't get it. You don't know them."
"No kidding." Paisley felt exasperated. She felt like getting in her parents' faces until they did get it. What kind of crap was that?
Later they went home. As they got ready for bed Paisley continued to fume. All this hiding just because her parents didn't "get" their lifestyle? Seriously?
Paisley lay on the bed, still sulking. She was even in her sulk pose with her arms folded and her foot tapping in frustration. She heard Rosabeth come out of the bathroom and went around to her side of the bed.
