Chapter 27
A few hours later Nicky's shift came to an end and she run to change out of her uniform. She was very impatient to leave with Mike and plus, she felt guilty for him having to wait for her shift to end. Stubborn man. No matter how much she insisted that he didn't wait for her, he didn't listen to her. He claimed that he was working and that he wanted to make up for lost time, but she knew he wasn't working. In the few days she had worked in the cafe, she had observed how he would turn a little bit his head towards the people sitting on one of the tables that were next to him, and when he had explained why he went there every day, she had deducted that he was getting a better angle for eavesdropping. Well today it was obvious to her, he paid no attention at all to the people that surrounded him. He seemed to be thinking hard about something that troubled him, judging from his facial expressions. He did frown often. She sure hoped so that he wasn't frowning because her shift hadn't ended yet. So she got ready as quickly as human possible and as she got out of the staff locker rooms she froze.
They weren't supposed to be leaving together. It would look too much like they were dating. And she wasn't sure she was allowed to date customers. It had never occured to her she might find herself in a situation like that, so she hadn't bothered to ask her collegues about it. She would never ask her boss something like that of course. She would probably die of embarrasment while trying to voice the question. Being a virgin at her age made her feel uncomfortable for things other people considered normal. That thought made her wonder if her "friendship" with Mike could eventually evolve in a relationship that would change that particular status for her.
In the mean while she stood frozen in the middle of a very busy cafe looking... stupid. She had to make a decison of how to act. Fast. People were looking... Everyone was looking at her a little bit wierd...
"I'll see you tomorrow girls. I've got the early shift" She half yelled at her collegues, hoping Mike heard her and that he would soon follow her out of the cafe. Her boss looked at her curiously and she hurried to leave before the questions begun.
Nicky went out and waited in the corner of the café out of sight waiting for Mike to get out. She kept waiting there for more than 10 minutes till Mike finally got out. Immediately she hissed at him.
"Mike here! I was waiting for you" Mike smiled and went towards the sweet siren calling to him.
"I wondered wether you'll wait for me, or ditched me and run fast like the wind away from me" He grinned at her while taking her hand and placing it on his elbow, silently telling her to guide him.
"Don't be silly, I would never do that to you, especially today that you stayed all morning waiting for me to finish my shift. Once again you really didn't need to do that.." They were walking towards nowhere specific for a couple of minutes, till Nicky realized she hadn't asked him where he wanted to go.
"Hmm Mike, I didn't ask you. Where do you want to go?"
"I want us to spend more time together, so I was thinking we could go at my place and order some take out and relax on my sofa. Maybe rent a movie or something." She didn't object that plan so started guiding them towards his house. She wasn't likely to forget where he lived. Ever...
"I can cook something quickly if you're hungry, we don't have to order takeout"
"You just got off work. I am not going to slave you to cook my dinner sweetie pie. We'll order something."
