This is a trope I don't mind as much as others. The reason why it is on here is because I wish more books (and other forms of entertainment) had main protagonists who aren't classified as the "super strong" or "super badass" kind of characters.
In many books I read, the main character is considered a badass to everyone in the book. Whether they are a badass assassin or fighter (or even a badass nerd), they just know how to fight (most) enemies that are in their path in some form.
This isn't a bad thing. In fact, there are so many characters that are considered "badass" that I really like.
[Examples include: Celaena from the Throne of Glass series and pretty much every main character in the Lunar Chronicles.]
It just bothers me that so many characters are badass these days.I would enjoy reading (and watching) about characters who are more awkward and funny rather than badass. Or perhaps read about a character who is physically weak and can't fight by themselves.
So to sum it up, I wish more books and other forms of entertainment had "Neville Longbottoms" as protagonists (though in the end of Harry Potter, you do get to see some badass moments with him. I just think it would be nice to see other main protagonists who are awkward and not the strongest character in the series.)
--------There are times where the main character who is badass I don't like.
[Examples include: Tris/Beatrice from the Divergent trilogy, Rho from the Zodiac series, and sadly, I do not like June from Legend.]
The reason so did not enjoy those listed characters is that I feel like they are either so badass they can defeat anything and handle anything no matter what happens (this is how I felt about Rho, however there are some incidents that do sometimes reveal her flaws), or their personalities were not so interesting aside from being badass (how I felt about Tris and June- I think Day is a good character though.)
--------This is a shorter and more broad chapter then usual because (like I said in the beginning) this is simply a trope I don't mind as much, I just wish we had more variety in main characters other than them being considered "badass" in any way.
I do understand that it is hard to avoid making characters badass. In general, I'm referring to the characters who are considered the physically strongest character in the series (whether hand-to-hand combat, weapons, and so on) and are (not always) portrayed as having little to no flaws or other characteristics aside from being badass.
[For example: Celaena from the Throne of Glass series, aside from being a badass assassin, also enjoys reading books. This gives her another characteristic aside from being a badass character.]
