Think of a teen drama movie or TV show, maybe even a book.
Is there a blonde girl?
Would you describe her as either a dumb blonde or a mean girl (typically "the boss" or "leader" of the mean girls)?
Most likely the answer is yes.People often attribute people with blonde hair to being unintelligent and ditzy. It's annoying how some people think that a person's hair color dictates their intellectual capabilities. Yet, the stereotype exists, and mind you, that the more modern origins of the stereotype are outdated and come from people who weren't even naturally blonde (cough cough Marilyn Monroe). The jokes and memes are never ending. A blonde person who makes one simple mistake gets laughed at for being blonde, yet people of different hair colors being stupid and making mistakes is perfectly acceptable.
As a result, blonde characters in entertainment are often perceived as having more negative traits than positive ones. These boring characters end up overshadowing the occasional blonde characters who actually have personality and aren't just based on stereotypes.
I find it sad really. Hair color shouldn't dictate the way we see people, not should it be a factor in how we create characters. Newsflash, stereotypes are NOT the personality of a person (I think I've already ranted a lot about what isn't a personality).

If the blonde isn't dumb, then most likely they're going to be the main baddie in the story, especially if you're talking about teen dramas. They'll be rich, spoiled, and bratty bitches that the main character, most likely a brunette, is in conflict with. But somehow, every teen boy will just gawk at her. They're's nothing wrong with having a main antagonist who happens to be blonde. However, the "mean blonde girl" antagonist is so overused in teen dramas (you too Wattpad. You're not excused, as you are flooded with every trope there is in existence). You can make the antagonist of different backgrounds and no way... different hair colors other than blonde.
• • •This is a shorter chapter, as there really isn't much I can say about this trope. Blondes are as cookie cutter as they get and lack in depth as characters, which is unfortunate. Heaven forbid a blonde girl actually be a good character with redeeming qualities... that doesn't sell well!!!
