Sex. It is something that is prevalent in our lives, yet it is something we consider a taboo subject. Yet it is also something that many of us are obsessed with.

Before I talk about sex in books, TV, movies, etc, I'll like to note that I'm an asexual person. I don't care about sex, nor do I feel sexual attraction towards people. That being said, I'm not here to shame people who are sexually active or indulge in stories that feature sex. I'm just here to simply speak my opinion.

Sex in entertainment isn't a bad thing. I just personally think people make it so cringy to read/watch.
Honestly, just think of atrocities such as After and Fifty Shades of Gray (and those are just popular titles). They make sexual relationships so shallow and superficial. It's unrealistic. On top of that, you got the case of "Bad Boy meets Nice Girl" in such stories. Newsflash, not every person who is sexually active wants to immediately bang someone they meet. Sometimes, a romantic relationship does develop first, and not a toxic one at that.

Personally, sex in entertainment bothers me the most when it is unnecessary to the plot. When it's just thrown in there for various reasons (usually fanservice) and it doesn't contribute to anything.
I've seen that with many YA books, especially in the fantasy genre, this unnecessary sex is found often.
There's this intense battle going on. So many side characters with little known about them are killed off. Our main characters are so badass and perfect that they could end this fight easily. What do they do? They will just bang in a tent just because, completely ignoring the actual plot that's going on.
(Looking at you once again, Sarah J. Maas. I know you love giant fairy dicks so much that you dismiss the parts of your book that could actually be interesting, but instead focus on your fairy porn).Instead of developing the main characters (usually one male and one female in this case, but it does vary from time to time) in natural ways, authors will make them have sex just for the sake of it. They don't develop feelings for each other, and sometimes they don't even like each other.
Nope. That stuff is apparently too boring and doesn't make enough money, so let's just throw sex everywhere because everyone wants it!!!
Look, if the main characters actually have a romantic relationship and do like each other, then sure, let there be a sex scene that shows their love for each other. I don't mind that. But instead of getting such relationships, we get sex just for the sake of it, and it's annoying (again, especially for an ace person like me, who personally prefers friendship and/or family dynamics). I'm just tired of seeing sex, especially when it features toxic relationships, flood entertainment.

Tropes I Don't Like
RandomAs much as I do love reading books and manga and watching my anime or other TV shows, there are tropes that I find quite annoying and wish to not see them as often. Whether the trope has something to do with the plot, a character, the concept, the...
