Chapter Two :: Linhart siblings
●●●
TRAVIS WAS WAITING for me at the airport lobby the next day.
Or at least that was what I assumed.
He was leaning against the wall, his foot propped up and he was texting someone. He didn't noticed me when I came closer to him.
I shrieked right directly at his ear and laughed hysterically.
His phone dropped to the floor, "Jesus!" He glared at me for a moment, then he realized who I was. "Andy?!"
"Don't be so surprised, brother," I rolled my eyes.
Travis was twenty-one years old and he was studying college in L.A., whereas I was studying high school in N.Y. We've never seen each other for almost a year and a half, said he was busy with the college stuff. But I know better, he was smart, yes, but a badass player, a bigger yes.
"Andy?!" He repeated.
"No shit, Sherlock."
He snorted. "Wow, look at you. You've changed."
"Have I heard wrong? Or is it really a compliment?"
"Ha-ha," He rolled his eyes, "Well at least you're attitude's still the same."
"Whatever," I said, "Why're you here again? You didn't told me you're going to pick me up."
"I'm not." He says, suddenly nervous. "I'm leaving, actually."
And that's when I noticed a bag lying on the floor. "Where the hell are you going?"
He ran a hand through his hair and muttered a few profanities under his breath. Typical Travis. "I don't know how to say this, but there's this girl..." he trailed off.
"And?" I motioned for him to go on.
"And.. and.." I gave him an encouraging smile. "And I really like her. Like, like her, like her."
I can't believe we're having this conversation! His face is so priceless, he looks like a lost puppy. I wanted to laugh but I know its already embarrassing for him as it is. And this is the first time, he'd finally found someone that he would settle for. Its a miracle for him, if you would ask me.
A genuine smile crept up to my face. "And you want to follow her?" He nodded. "Tell her you love her? And live happily ever after?"
"Yes!- wait, what? No!" His cheeks flamed, and this time I really started laughing, hysterically. I enjoy making him uncomfortable. "Whatever, Andy. I'm leaving."
"What?... wait... wait.. a.. sec," I said in between laughs. After I finally sobered up, Travis handed me a pouch. "What's this?"
"It's for the party," Now its his turn to laugh. "Try not to drink from the punch bowl again, okay?"
"I hate you." I hissed.
"You love me, you're just shy to admit it." he says, "I'm your favorite brother remember?"
"Of course!" I said in pure sarcasm. "That's because you're my only brother, you idiot."
"Just..." he started. "Just don't tell dad anything about this, okay?"
"Fine, whatever."
He hugged me. His six foot frame towering over my five foot eight height. "So tell me, what do you give for a girl on the first real date?"

After Travis' plane has board off, I asked my dad to send a car to pick me up. At first he was surprised as to why I'm here. I just told him that Travis asked me a favor cause he's doing something important out of town, which is partially true except that Travis isn't going out of town, he's going to freaking Paris to follow the girl.
After I gave him some advice on how to get the girl - which is kind of ironic, since I just broke up with my boyfriend yesterday - I told him to give her something she won't forget, he suggested that it would be a kiss or the deed, and I just smacked him upside his large head. After a couple of minutes of bickering, the time has came for him to depart, we settled that the gift would be a silver necklace, and then he hugged me once again.
Man, my brother was totally whipped. Whoever that girl is, I wanna hug her and thank her for changing my brother.
After that little reunion with Travis, I'm now sitting at a small table over looking the Venice Beach.
"Andy," My father snapped his fingers in front of me and I gaped at him. Well, that's a change. That's very unprofessional. I like it.
"Huh?"
"I said, are you lying about your brother's whereabouts." He looked me straight in the eye.
I hate lying to my father. "No, dad." But that's what I'm really good at.
"Okay," He says, taking a sip on his soda. This is so unlike him. He was always strict, so professional, so business like...
Maybe I should spend a little more time with him, since mom's already dead.. And..
My breath caught up in my throat. Every time a memory of her crosses my mind, its like a painful reminder as to why she's already buried six feet under. I try to shrug the feeling off and just focus on the view unfolding before me.
Kids running, kicking off sands, the smell of saltwater and the sun so high up in the sky. I breathe in the remnants of summer, and looked at my father.
He was in his forties, his eyes just like Travis' a deep blue, their hair a few shades darker than my dirty blonde ones, their features, they're so alike.
As for me, I look like my mom. I've seen pictures of her, several of them. And as time went on, I grew up looking like her. I don't know if its a good thing or not but every time I was reminded by looking like her, I always get a sinking feeling in my stomach, in my mind, or is it just guilt?
I pushed the negative thoughts at the back of my mind, two more days and summer is gonna be over, I need to enjoy this time with my dad.
"I'm guessing Travis has girl problems." my dad suddenly spoke up and I snorted a laughed.
"How'd you know that?"
He shrugged. "He seems a little off lately."
"Like, off of what?" I asked, suddenly interested.
"He's off of alcohol. The wine cellar in the house haven't been opened lately. He goes home before 9pm. He was always on his cellphone -"
I cut him off. "So, you're saying that..."
"Yes," he nodded. "I can't even believe it myself. I seriously want to meet that mystery girl. And maybe, just maybe get them married right away."
I burst out laughing. If only Travis knew that this was dad's opinion in this situation...
That kid really needs to think through things before doing it his way.
I watched as the remaining of summer came spiraling slowly before me, creating a vivid rainbow of purple, orange and yellow.
Ahh, sunsets, you never fail to mesmerize me every time.
