2.8 –  Telling

“Psst… Zayn! Oi!”

Zayn Malik sighed. It was half past nine in the morning and he was in his second class to teach of the day according to the time table he was given. He knew it was Louis who was calling him like a needy little child from the window beside the closed door. He really didn’t understand why his best friend would bother him during his working hours because he once had told Louis not to do so.

“Malik, are you fucking deaf?!” He heard Louis half whispered.

That made Zayn stopped writing the notes for the lesson he had taught on the black board. He placed the white chalk on his table before excusing himself to go see his best friend. He already had thoughts on how he would like to kill Louis for disturbing him while he was working.

He closed the door with a slam to show his anger towards Louis then meeting him by the near lockers. But the feeling washed away when he saw Louis’ appearance. He had dark circles around his eyes. He wasn’t well dressed for work instead he wore a black pair of sweatpants and a grey coloured hoodie.

“You looked like you got hit by a car.” were the words that left Zayn’s lips.

“Thanks.” Louis replied sarcastically, “Why were you so late to come outside?! I’m having an emergency right now!”

Zayn crossed his arms, “Pretty sure I’ve told you not to bother me while I’m in class.”

“But this is important! I finally know why the fuck Harry left me. I feel so bad and stupid. Here!” The brunet took out a brown leather notebook from the pocket of his hoodie. “Here are the answers!”

Unfortunately, Zayn wasn’t buying it. He was more concerned about his students who were making noises in the classroom. He was very serious when it comes to his work so he really didn’t like the fact that he was wasting time on Louis.

“The answers are in that leather notebook that has doodles on it? Yeah, Lou. We’ll talk later.” Zayn began to leave Louis by the row of lockers.

“What kind of teacher are you? What about that popular quote about ‘don’t judge a book by its cover, huh Zayn? Besides, this is Harry’s! He loves me, Zayn! He loves me!”

Zayn stopped his tracks. He turned around to see Louis leaning on the row of lockers with his face in his hands. His best friend looked so vulnerable and he hated seeing that. He liked the confident, sassy Louis he first met. It was very strange seeing Louis this sad. The last time he saw Louis being vulnerable was when he lost his grandfather.

“Hey, shh, don’t cry, Lou.” He tried to comfort with his arms wrapped around Louis’ petite frame. Louis was starting to cry and there were teardrops running down his pale cheeks, “I’ll be right back, okay? For now, you just go to our room then I’ll meet you there. We don’t want any kids to see you like this, right?”

Once Louis had calmed down, he nodded as a response before walking towards the direction of the room Zayn had mentioned.

Zayn apologized to his students for the interruption, gave them an assignment to do and grabbed his briefcase and the books he used for learning then dismissed the class ten minutes earlier than the usual time.

Louis sat in one of the empty chairs of the room while he waited for Zayn to come. His legs were brought up into the chair with his arms hugging them tightly. It had been about six minutes and Louis was feeling anxious and impatient for his friend to show up. He needed to tell someone about the information he had obtained after reading Harry’s journal.

The door was knocked three times before Zayn entered the room in a hurry. He put his things on the table where they usually eat at, then took a seat in an empty chair next to Louis’.

“I’m here. What’s wrong? Why do you look so sad when you know now why he left?”

“Haven’t you heard me, Zayn? He loves me!”

“You screamed it out, of course I heard it. I’m not surprised if the kids in the class heard it as well.”

“Zayn, please be serious about this! He didn’t like Eleanor and I being together! In the journal, he wrote entries about how he feels about me and the fact that I was in a relationship. I feel so bad. Please help me, Zayn.” pleaded Louis with his eyes already watering, waiting for the right moment to fall down his cheeks.

“How can I help, Lou? Just name it.”

“Help me find him. Please.”

“Can I at least see the journal first?”

Without a moment to think, Louis fished out the journal out of his hoodie pocket. He handed it to Zayn with trembling hands. Even though he didn’t hesitate to give the permission to read it to Zayn, he didn’t really like the idea of another person reading the stuff Harry wrote about him. Louis waited fidgety for his best friend to finish scanning through the pages.

“Lou, I need you to answer this question with full honesty. Do you like Harry? Even before he left you?”

“I do.”
