Chapter 1

Cassidy's POV:

"Mummy! Mummy! Look at me!" My five year-old self called for my mother.

She looks up from her book she's reading smiling brightly at me. "Wow! You're way high up, sweetie! Just be careful, I don't want you to hurt yourself." My mum warns me.

"I will mummy!" I say as I slide down the pole from the playground.

Once I was down I ran towards where my mum was sitting. I was running so fast that I didn't notice the big rock in the direction my mother was. The next thing I know I trip and fall, landing on my knee and scrapping my hand. I begin to cry from the pain, while my mum ran towards me.

She scooped me up and sat me on her lap. "Shh.. it's okay baby, it's okay. I'm here, what happened sweetheart? How did you fall?" My mother cooed looking at me with concern in her eyes.

"I-I tripped over that b-b-big rock and f-fell mummy." I sobbed in my mother's arm.

"Oh baby, does anything hurt?" She questions examining my face.

"I scrapped my hand and hurt my knee, mummy." I sniffled, showing my mum where I hurt myself.

She gently grabbed my hand and planted a kiss on it, doing the same with my knee. "That mean rock hurt my little girl making her cry." My mum frowned.

She stayed silent for a while as she continued to examine me.

"Cassidy, promise me something okay." Mummy said with a serious look on her face.

"Okay mummy." I said confused why she had that face.

"Promise me that when you fall that you will always get back up and lift yourself higher than before. You are a beautiful girl and you deserve the world, you are my world. Never give up when things get rough, always fight back stronger. Fight for the things that you love, in the end it will all be worth it. You just gotta keep that pretty little head of yours held high, promise me." My mum said seriously.

"I promise mummy." I gave her my word.

She smiled down at me kissing my forehead.

"Come on let's show the rock who's the boss here." Mummy held my good hand and we walked up to the rock that tripped me over and kicked it playfully.

I started giggiling at how funny my mummy looked kicking at the rock.

Suddenly I was lifted up the ground, spinning around in my mums arms. A fit of laughter consumed me. My mum stopped spinning me and placed me on her hip laughing along with me.

"There's the smile I've been waiting for." My mum smiled while rubbing her nose against mine.

"I love you mummy!" I exclaimed hugging her tightly from her neck.

"I love you too my sweet angel!" She said while giving me a squeeze.

"Now... How about we go and get some ice cream!" My mum looked at me with a smile that never seems to fade.

"Ice cream!" I yelled lifting my arms up in the process.

My mum chuckled and off we went to the ice cream shop down the street.

Beep! Beep! Beep!

I groan and roll over to turn off my alarm. I look at the clock, it read 5:30 a.m. I huff and lay there for a minute before getting up to take a quick shower. I change into a big shirt and baggy jeans, slipping on my worn out converse.

Grabbing my backpack on the way out of my room. Going down the stairs to start making breakfast before my father wakes up.

Trying not to make as much noise as possible, I get to work making his breakfast. The faster I  finish his food, the faster I get away from him.

-30 minutes later-

I was finally finished with making breakfast and now all I have to do is set the table up for him and head to school before he comes downstairs.

Once I was done with the table and looked around the kitchen to make sure that the dishes that I washed, are put away in the cupboards and everything is nice and clean. I pick up my backpack from the stool while grabbing a granola bar and a apple before heading out.

I locked the front door and started making my way to school. I checked the time on my phone to determine the amount of time I have to get to school. It read 6:37 a.m.

Yikes! I spent a little bit more time making sure everything was good in the kitchen, that I lost track of time. I mean, school doesn't start till 8:00 a.m. But my dad gets up for work at 7:00 a.m. I was just lucky that I didn't have to deal with him, for now.

The walk to school didn't take that long than it normally did. Probably because I didn't get a beaten last night and didn't have to walk as slow as I normally do when it happened.

I shudder at the thought. I found it strange that my dad didn't hit me last night, unlike others. Not that I'm complaining, but I was actually able to sleep somewhat good. Good because I dreamt of my mum and I going to the park.

I miss my mum so much ever since she passed about 10 years ago. Sometimes I wonder how things would be if she were to still be here...

-----------------------------

I did my normal routein once I was on campus. I went to my locker to get the books that I will need for the day and headed straight to the library to spend the rest of my morning there.

It has become a habit now. I've been doing it since my freshman year of highschool. Then again, I have done this at a very young age as well. I don't mind, I actually find it quite comforting with all the silence.

It helps me think a lot better of things like what to do when I turn 18. I'm 17 right now, but I will be 18 in a couple of months. Although it may seem like a long way to go, I am being as patient with time itself. No one has any idea of how long I've been waiting to turn 18.

I already have a plan when I come of age. I have been saving a lot of my money from work in my bank account ever since I was probably 12 or 13. And with that money, I am moving out of my dad's house and moving into an apartment.

I have been doing my research of good apartments near the school, since I still have one more year before going off to college. I am hoping that everything will turn out just fine and as planned.

I didn't realize how deep in my thoughts I was until the bell rang, signaling to go to first class.

I gathered my things and packed them in my bag and headed off to first. I had biology right now which luckily for me was close to the library. I had finally made it to class and took my a seat at my usual spot next to the window, which is at the very back of the room.

As soon as the teacher walked in the classroom, I started getting out the nessecary materials for this class and let the teacher begin her lesson of today.
