Sometimes... crying is all you can do...
"Lucy, don't try too hard." Natsu laughed, watching his friend attempt to win an arm wrestling contest with Erza. Hard to believe, but the were pretty evenly matched. Even Erza was surprised, she was giving her all.
"I won't stop... until I win..." Lucy heaved, pushing more and more. Soon she was able to get an advantage and pushed a little more. Finally there was a slam, Lucy had her eyes closed and opened them slowly, smiling wide.
"Lucy won?!" Warren asked, doubtful.
"Cheerleaders are strong." Natsu said, crossing his arms and grining. It was almost as if he knew she was going to win. Lucy pushed him playfully before turning back to the others. Natsu watched the back of her head, admiring her features. He couldn't help but admit that she looked her best with her hair down. Everyone else thought so too but he was different. No one knew how much then. He swallowed the thoughts and grinned when his blonde partner turned to him.
"Ready to go?" She asked, nodding to Erza who was quietly sulking in a corner. The others were trying to lure her out, with no prevail.
"Yeah." He said nodding. Happy flew to his side on cue and landed on his head, getting comfortable in the mess of pink hair.
"So, how did you do that?" Natsu asked, opening the door to the guild for the girl. She thanked him and walked ahead.
"Will." She shrugged, throwing her arms out and twirling. She was in an unbelievably goo mood that day.
"What do you mean, 'Will'? Who is he?" The dragon slayer asked hottly.
"No, not Will as in a person, Will as in your own will. Your...determination to do something!" She pointed out, siling towards him.
"How does that help? It has nothing to do with your strength?" He asked, even more confused. It made more sense when Will was a person.
"Your strength is determined by how much effort you put into it, your effort is determined by your will. It's quite simple really, if you read books." She remarked snidely. She turned back to in front of her, spotting the edge of the road where she usually walked along.
Natsu scratched the back of his head, thinking. Was that supposed to be meant towards me? "Uhm, well, I just get angry." Natsu grinned, holding up his fist.
"You don't read books either." Lucy called behind her, balancing on the small space of brick she walked along. She looked to the left, expecting the boaters would be there, but instead the water was still. She smiled slightly, then missed a step, causing her to lean to the side, her left foot sliding off of the brick.
"Lucy!" Natsu called, jumping towards her. At the last second he grabbed her hands, pulling her back up and onto him.
She had her eyes closed, waiting to emerge into the water. When she opened her eyes, she was centimeters away from Natsu. Her lips where so close, if she spoke, they'd touch. His warm breath on her lips made her feel safe. Secure. She wanted to be closer. The heat that emitted from his body was lurring to her. She couldn't help but melt into his embrace. No!
Lucy jumped up,her face red with anger, and embarrasment. She looked to the ground, then far off, not sure what to do. "I-I have to go! Bye Natsu!" She turned quickly, not wanting to face him anymore.
Natsu sighed, sticking his leg out causing Lucy to fall. "Why do you always have to do this?" He asked, turning to her with a slightly annoyed expression.
W-What? Lucy was even redder than before as Natsu held his hand to her, helping her sit up. She looked at him dumbfoundedly, seeming more dense than him or Gray combined.
"Luce..." Natsu started, then stopped, laughing. Lucy raised an eyebrow towards him. Was he joking around or...
"Natsu...are you ok?" She asked, reaching a hand out,but quickly pulling it away. Natsu noticed.
"No, especially when you do that." He said, shaking his head. "Lately, all you've been doing is running away from me, your face all red, and you won't even tell me why. I don't like it. I care about you. You're my partner. My friend. The person I tell everything to... So, why can't you do the same?" He asked, crossing his arms.
Lucy smiled slightly, though small tears rolled down her cheeks. "This is why I can't tell you. If I do..."She stopped, looking up, he was watching her now, his eyes wide, her smile faded. "If I do, our friendship will be ruined. There will never be an 'us'. I'll loose you." She covered her eyes, starting to sob quietly.
"Luce, why are you crying?" Natsu asked, his head hanging. "You know I don't like it when you cry... but..." He smiled, causing Lucy to hold her breath. He soon leaned towards her, his face so close to his. He lifted his hands, pulling hers from her face so she could see him. "You're so pretty. When you cry. And when you smile... why not try both?" He grinned, his hot breath tickling her nose. She couldn't resist the urge to smile. Natsu always made her smile. No matter what. One of the things she couldn't bare to loose. "How could you loose me? I'm afraid of loosing you. Especially, after this..." He leaned close, his breath closing in on her lips. Soon their lips met, causing an unbelievable sensation to erupt in both of them. Lucy, once again, melted into his embrace. They moved in perfect unison, their tongues dancing like nothing. Soon, the kiss broke.
"Natsu..." Lucy sighed, gripping his shoulders.
"Trust me, if someone can cry for me, with that much emotion, and still be able to kiss that good, I'm not going anywhere. Especially from you, Lucy." He smirked, happy with his decision. He may be dense, but he knows what to do in the heat of the moment.
Lucy's heart almost leapt out of her chest. Tears were still falling down her cheeks. Natsu stood, gripping her hand, he started pulling her up.
"Yeah... I won't leave either." She smiled through the tears, causing Natsu to pull her into a hug. One that neither would ever forget.
