the thing is;
i like stars,
and she likes the sunrise.

do it was decided.
we're not sleeping tonight.
we sneak onto her roof and get ready to stay there.

it was weird how many stars you could see even in the city. it was pretty cool though, i have to admit.

and so i taught her some constellations, the names of the brightest stars, and which star was actually mars. we talked about what could be on the other side of the moon and if there was life out in space, in other galaxies. it was possibly my favourite topic of conversation.
especially with her.

eventually, the sun started rising, but there was nothing to do except admire it. so silence rolled in, but i guess she was eager to break it.
– what's your favourite colour?
– colour? i've never seen much of that, i answered with a chuckle.
– are you colourblind?
– no, it's just that... colours have never popped, sparkled, or been bright with me. like if it was monotone, the whole world.
– that's really sad. i'll try to make colours pop and sparkle and be bright for you, she cried with a giggle.

and now the best part of the sunrise. all the pretty colours roll in, though i know they could be prettier. so i just look at her instead, she's pretty no matter what.

– so, what's your favourite colour, wendy?
– just look at the sunrise and you see all of my favourites.

i turn my head to the sky. nothing special, in my eyes at least.
and so i turned back to her and lied.
– they're pretty colours, you're right.
she didn't answer though.

a single tear fell down her cheek.
a sniffle.
she wipes her eyes to rid them from tears, and then looks back at me.

– i'm sorry, i wasn't meant to cry, i just-

and i kiss her cheek.

– you don't need to explain yourself.

she looks at me, her mouth agape. she then closes it and replaces the pout with a warm smile.

and as i turn my head back to the dull sunrise,

she places her hand on my cheek, and keeps it there, like if she was thinking before doing something.

she was done thinking.

and oh boy did she do something.

she pushes my head to the side, to face her.

she looks at me in the eyes, twinkles remaining in hers.

i can feel her breath on me she's so close.

the space between us gets thinner and thinner.

until there isn't any.

it was short, brief, but magical.
and so once it was over, we looked back at the sun without saying a word.

and the sun popped, sparkled and was bright for the first time in my life.
and her eyes twinkled ten times more.
and my fingernails painted in blue were bluer than ever.
and her cheeks were pinker.
and mine were too.

and god,

everything looked so much more beautiful now.
