we visited her everyday at the hospital, no matter what.
her parents would be there most times, and we'd just talk about her current state.
not much to talk about, otherwise.she was still joyful and bubbly, no matter how many needles they poke into her and pills they make her swallow. she was possibly the strongest person i've ever known, just for that.
one day, about two months after she'd been hospitalized, i had stayed a little longer than everyone else.
it was getting much colder, and it was raining every other day, but today seemed quite clear and warm for early november.so we decided to watch the sunrise.
we hadn't in a long while, and i missed her gaze and her mouth parting a little in stupefaction.
so we snuck slowly onto the roof and we laid the hospital blankets down. we'd watch the stars first, obviously.she remembered everything i told her about seoul's night sky, which was surprisingly bright considering the amount of light polution. her eyes were also surprisingly bright considering the pain she's been through.
we don't talk, for a good 3 hours.
out of nowhere, though, she speaks up.– let's get married.
– what?! b-but we're only sixteen, and-
– it's been my dream ever since i remember. to get married, before i can't anymore. besides, you're the only one i'd ever marry, so we might as well do it now.
– but we're not even allowed, wendy.
– it doesn't have to be official, only us, our friends, and our parents have to know. we don't need to sign papers to be married in our hearts.
she has a point, i guess.
we both know we were meant for eachother, so why not?thus, i get on one knee, and i propose.
– alright then, son seungwan: will you you marry me?
she says yes about a hundred times and kisses me all over.
she really wanted this.
or needed.i'm obviously gonna get rings tomorrow.
* * *
the next day, since it was a sunday, we invited everyone who knew about our relationship to the hospital.
even some of the nurses were in on it.once everyone's there, and i had brought the rings i got in the morning, we started the ceremony.
it was odd, to say the least.
a girl, in pyjamas and a hospital gown, and her fiancé, in sweatpants and an old tshirt.it didn't matter though, nobody was actually dressed for the occasion.
well, except joy.
that girl, i swear to god.her father was the wedding officiant, even though he didn't know the words.
he tried though.
– bae joohyun, will you take wendy son, as uhh... um... ah fuck it. do you wanna marry her?
– i do, i said, giggling.
– and you, wendy? you wanna marry her?
– i do, she answered, on the verge of tears from how much she's laughing.
– bring the rings!!
at that, she stopped laughing. it was a surprise to her that we actually had rings for this, so instead of crying of laughter, she started actually crying.
yeri walked in, a hospital pillow in her arms, the two silver rings on top.
she gave them to wendy's father, and walked back into the group of people watching. i took one of them and placed it around her finger, as she did the same to me. we looked at eachother, teary eyed.
well, by that i mean we were both sobbing messes.– the bride may kiss the bride! he exclaimed.
we practically jump on top of eachother and kiss possibly every inch of our faces.
we're married now.
wendy son, son seungwan, is my wife.
bae joohyun, irene bae, is hers.we're eachother's
and we always will be.//
