Vaughn's POV
"Ladies and gentlemen, I've found the best thing I've ever seen this year!" Cara announced, sitting down with a sheet in her hand.
"What is it now?" Lacey muttered, looking up with a playful frown.
"Are you all ready to see something that will change your lives forever?" Cara looked around the table, scanning everyone closely. We all cautiously nodded.
Cara flipped her paper over, sliding it into the middle of the table.
"A list of the top ten hottest guys on campus?" Chase mumbled, raising an eyebrow at Cara. She smiled wide, giving him a nod.
"Isn't it great? It was posted on my locker. And look! Who knew we were hanging with three of the hottest guys on campus."
I scanned the list closer, finding my name.
3. Vaughn James.
I blinked at it, and couldn't help but grin. I'm the third hottest guy on campus. Right below me was Chase, and right above me as Theo.
"I should have been number one," Theo beamed, sliding the sheet away from him slightly.
"Yeah yeah, hot stuff. You're lucky your on it."
"Hey!"
"Im just saying! You're not exactly a ladies man."
"That has to do with the fact that I'm not interested in ladies."
I chuckled, eavesdropping on the conversation.
"I must say though, they were right to put Dylan Johnson at number one. Holy hell, I hope he's gay," Theo said, resting his chin on his hand.
"No way! Ken Browns should have been number one," Honor insisted. Theo shook his head vigorously.
"You only like him because he said you were hot in the year book photo."
"No! That was Jack Browns. His brother."
"No, it was Ken! I remember because he asked me if I was your boyfriend, to which I just laughed hysterically."
Honor crossed her arms, sitting back in her seat. "Gee, thanks."
I smiled at the exchange, looking up to see what Chase thought. He was staring at the sheet like it broke into his home and stole his prize possession.
My smile fell. I looked around to be sure everyone was occupied before trying to get his attention.
"Chase?" I whispered. He looked up, making brief eye contact before shooting his eyes back down. He stood, leaving the cafeteria. I got up and followed him.
"Chase!" I called, grabbing his arm in the empty hallway.
"What?" He hissed, not turning around to look at me. He yanked his arm out of my hold.
"Are you okay? You looked..."
"I'm fine."
I looked down at my shoes, biting my lip. "I just thought that you might need a friend. I mean, I don't know what's wrong, but if you wanted to talk about it, I'm here."
Chase stayed silent, so I didn't move. After a long moment, I decided I should speak.
"You know, when I'm upset, i like a change of venue. I like to go somewhere I've never been before. Except, I always went to the same park because the people around there always changes so it felt like I was going somewhere new."
Chase nodded, his back still turned on me.
"You know how you said you wanted to do something crazy because you were upset?" He mumbled.
"Yeah..?"
Instead of replying, Chase whipped around, putting his hand on the back of my neck and kissing me. My eyes widened, but I didn't fight it.
After an awkward second, I kissed back, a feeling of joy and confusion washing over me.
