Chases POV
I walked into the lunch room, and was immediately hit by a wall of eyes staring straight at me. I blinked in embarrassment, my face beginning to warm up. My lip began to quiver.
I tried to turn invisible, curl myself into my dark hoodie. I basically sprinted to our lunch table, taking my seat by the window.
"Welcome to the world, Flash," Lacey chuckled with a smirk. I rolled my eyes, looking out the window.
"Are you okay, Chase?" Theo asked kindly, laying a hand in my shoulder. I shrugged it off.
"Fine." I mumbled. Theo gave me an unconvinced look.
"You don't have to be all tough all the time. You can talk to me." I was thankful that he whispered this so only I could hear. I didn't want the others thinking of me that way.
"I know I can. It's just... I'm feeling a little vulnerable, and it's not a feeling I like nor am I accustomed to."
"I understand. You know, most of them are looking at you out of jealously. The guys want to be you and the girls want you."
I looked up at Theo, a frown on my face. "I'm not really looking for anyone, currently. I've got my sights set."
I looked out the window, not giving him any hints.
"I know," he whispered, even quieter than he did before. "I heard."
My head whipped up.
"From who?!" I hissed. Theo gave me a shrug, cheekily looking away. "Theo! Who told you?"
"Who told him what?" Honor asked suspiciously. I scanned around the table, my eyes landing on Vaughn. He was looking at me with worry in his eyes. Slowly, he mouthed, "I told him."
My lips parted slightly, but I didn't say anything. I thought I should be angry. I would be angry at anyone else, but I couldn't be angry when I looked at him. All I could see was the shy smile that left me last night after I kissed him.
I didn't know why I did it, it just felt like the right thing to do, and kissing him the first time felt like the last piece of a puzzle was finally connected. I wanted that feeling again.
"It's okay," I mouthed back. Vaughn cracked a small smile, obviously relieved.
"Are you two done with your telepathic conversation now?" Cara asked, looking annoyed to be left out of something.
"Sorry, I didn't realize everything had to include you," I snapped playfully. Cara narrowed her eyes at me.
"What were you talking about? How a girl prefers a gay guy over you?"
"Do not drag me into this, I find we are an attractive bunch, I am not putting myself over anyone," Theo said matter of factly. "Besides, any one of any gender or sexuality knows that I'm hot as hell."
"Preach!" Lacey exclaimed.
"You're just upset because there's no list to make girls want to be you," I told Cara, ignoring everyone else.
"And you're just upset because... wait, what was the dilema this week?" Cara asked, tapping her chin in false thought.
"Can't we all just get along?" Honor drawled dramatically.
"You're tearing us apart!" Theo joined in.
"I'm sorry, children. Mom and dad don't love each other anymore," I joked with a sad face.
"And it's your faults," Cara added helpfully. The table gave out into laughter. During the buzz, I turned back to Vaughn.
"Want to do something after school today?"
"Sure. My house?"
"Yeah."
I smiled, and so did he, and for once in a long time, I felt completely content.
