The many lunches rolled past, and I saw that Vaughn had taken my request to heart. Every lunch he'd sit down quietly, say hello to everyone, and would speak softly to whoever was talking to him. I was grateful, but slightly irritated. Grateful that he shut up, and irritated that he was still there.
I spent my lunches staring out the window and getting pains in the head from rolling my eyes.
"Hey Vaughn, I was planning on having everyone up to my families cabin this weekend for a sleepover, do you want to come?" Theo asked, and I could hear the smile on his face. I turned around to look at the exchange. Vaughn had a small smile on his face, but as he turned to look at me, his smile fell.
He shook his head.
"No, that's alright," Vaughn said, almost like he felt guilty. I looked his expression up and down, but I couldn't see anything less than innocence on his face. "Y-you don't have to invite me just because I'm here."
Theo shook his head vigorously, a frown creasing his face.
"Don't be silly! I want you to come! I'm sure everyone wants you to come!" There was a murmur of agreement around the table. Vaughn glanced over at me, seeing that I was the only one not jumping on the chance to show him how great he is.
The second his eyes hit me, I stood and marched out of the lunch room. I was walking down the hall when I heard footsteps behind me.
"Chase, wait up!"
I turned, seeing Theo approach me with a frown on his face.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" Theo snapped. I furrowed my brows at him, feigning confusion.
"What do you mean?" I asked. Theo scoffed.
"You know what I mean! Vaughn is trying his best to get you to like him, or at least not to irritate you, and you keep brushing him off."
"What's the big deal? So what I don't like him, it's not interfering with you guys."
"You didn't even try to get to know him. He's really nice, Chase, if you just give him a chance."
I rolled my eyes, but Theo stopped me by grabbing me by the shoulders.
"I'm serious, Chase. Just talk to him for five minutes, I swear, you'll love him."
"Whatever."
(Sorry for the extremely short chapter, it's basically just a transition🤷♂️)
