Percy's POV

My movements started to slow as I cut down monster after monster, stoke after stroke. The war against Gaea had finally began, and the odds were very much against us. The distant bellows of the giants tore through the air. I had lost sight of my friends and my allies in this sea of endless enemies. A scream echoed through the air, and I froze. I knew that voice. "PIPER?" I yelled, spinning and slashing my way through the mass of limbs and claws. I finally broke through, and my blood ran cold as I took in the sight in front of me. The rest of the 7 were backed up into a tight circle, fending off the endless amount of monsters that flooded their way. Piper was in the center of the circle, a nasty looking gash starting on her shoulder and running down the entire length of her abdomen, pain evident on her face. The rest of them were littered with cuts and bruises. I slashed my way through the monsters, fueled by determination to get my friends home safely. I mowed down countless enemies, gaining injuries, but I didn't care.

I needed to get them home.

"Percy!" Jason yelled, looking relieved. I didn't stop for an instant, whirling like a storm through the mob of monsters that surrounded my friends. Powered by adrenaline, I finally thinned out enough monsters that the rest of us could handle without to much trouble. I joined Annabeth's side, and she looked at me as If were crazy. "What?" I asked, finding that everyone else adorned the same look on their faces. "You just killed around 200 monsters." Jason said, surprised. My eyes widened. 200 monsters? I shook my head. We had no time for that now. "Piper, are you ok?" I asked. "Yeah. I'll make it." She said, her voice tight with pain. I gave a sigh of relief that was sadly short lived as the ground began to shake. Out of the fog came the giants, Polybotes leading them. "Oh. That's not good. Have the Gods arrived?" I asked, worried. "N-no. We're on our own." Hazel stuttered, terror written on her face. I held Riptide in front of me. "Ah, the Poseidon scum!" Polybotes laughed, "It's finally your time to die." I narrowed my eyes. "Not happening, dreadlocks." His face twisted into one of anger. "CHARGE, MY BRETHEREN!" And 5 giants came rushing towards us.

Percy's POV

I wasn't a kid of Athena, but I knew we couldn't win this. There wasn't any possible way. Without the Gods, we couldn't kill them, and with Piper out of commission, that left only 6 of us to kill 5 giants. Not good. As the giants drew near, a spear of lightning flashed through the air, nicking Jason's shoulder, drawing a yelp of pain from the Son Of Jupiter.

That's when I knew what I had to do.

I dropped Riptide. "PERCY ARE YOU INSANE! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" Annabeth roared, the others yelling at me to pick it up, to get ready.

I closed my eyes.

I concentrated. The faces of my friends and family flashing through my mind. I needed to protect them, no matter what. I splayed my hands toward the ground, and I gave it everything I had.

And Water exploded everywhere.

I felt the sharp tug in my gut, and when I opened my eyes, a wall of water surrounded us, shielding us from the giants, who began to pound on the wall. I gritted my teeth as the tug became stronger, my hands beginning to shake. "P-Percy?" Piper stuttered, staring at me. "There's no way we can win. Without the Gods, it's a suicide mission." I pushed the words out, talking an effort, "I won't let you die. I won't. Just until the Gods get here. Then-Then we'll have a chance." Annabeth raced over to me. "No! You'll die! YOU CAN'T KEEP THE WALL UP FOR THAT LONG, DO YOU UNDERSTAND?! IT'LL KILL YOU!" Jason nodded. "Percy, when I use just a little bit of my powers, it drains me! You need to stop!" He said desperately. I gave a small smile. "Nah. As long as you guys are safe, it's worth it." I whispered, my voice strained.
