"This is very nice." Elijah exclaimed as he looked out of the window. He's right. Campus is absolutely perfect. It's looked way better in the photos that I've seen online but it's still really nice. You could definitely tell that it was moving day. From some people getting dropped off to others getting picked up. Some parents were crying while the others were laughing and smiling.
We finally find a parking space and Elijah grabbed my bags from the back. We made our way into my building, building B. "I'm in room b-127." I look up at the signs and follow the numbers. As we approach my door I sigh. The moment of truth.
My roommate....
I open the door and see no one. All we see is pictures hung up on the walls and a messy bed across from an empty one. "This is- nice." Mother hesitantly says as we walk into the room. I could tell that she was already having second thoughts about putting me in the dorms. At first she wanted to buy me an apartment on campus but I told her no. I wouldn't get the full on college experience that way. "Yeah this is actually-"
"What's up." A loud voice calls out from the door cutting Elijah off. I turned around quickly and saw a girl wearing- a lot of black. I mean a lot of it. Black hair. Black ripped jeans. A black half cut shirt. Black shoes. Black socks. Black- everything. "H-hi. I'm Evana Brooks." I say slowly still trying to get used to all of the black. "Riley Evans." She says as she walked over to her bed. I look over to my mother and see her eyes glued on Riley. So are Elijah's.
She sits down on her bed and looks down at her phone not acknowledging my mom's or Elijah's presents. I look around her side of the room and notice that the pictures that are hung up are mostly of bands and people that I never even knew existed. "Sweetie why don't you walk me back to the car." Mom said slowly. I nodded and followed her outside. "I will be requesting for you to be placed in a new dorm room tomorrow. This is exactly why I didn't want you in these dorms. People are-" I cut her off. "Mom please don't do that. We don't even know her."
"I think I have an idea. Did you see those provocative photos on her wall? Not okay." She rambles as she looks through her purse for her phone. "Mom seriously. I don't want to change rooms. I know she doesn't seem like what we hoped but we should still give it a chance." I explained. She looks up at me then over to Elijah.
She sighs.
"Fine. But do not let her influence you in any way. I know how young ladies like her behave." She says. "I won't mother." I sigh before pulling her into a hug. She gives me a quick kiss on the cheek before pulling away. "I'm very proud of you." She smiles adoringly. "Thank you mom." I smiled. I turn to Elijah and pull him into a tight hug. I'm going to miss him. Yeah I can still see him but he lives two hours away from campus so not as much as I used to.
"I love you." He smiled as he pulled away. "I love you. I will call you when I get settled in." I tell him. He nodded before placing a kiss on my cheek and getting inside the car. I watched in awe as they drive off.
It's official. I'm all alone. On the road to adulthood. The start of something great.
Now let's meet this roommate...
