🎧 Book Playlist-Song 2: To Be Human by Sia ft Labrinth 🎧
A/N: This song is riveting. Enjoy!
Chapter One:
Some people are born with tornadoes in their lives, but constellations in their eyes. Other people are born with stars at their feet, but their souls are lost at sea.
Twyla
I walked down the stone pathway leading up to the front steps, following my familiar routine. The house in front of me was made up of some sort of Gothic stone and dark green vines of ivy ran along one of the walls, bright green grass grew sideways along the stone path leading further into a fine growth of violets and daisies with tall red cedar trees lining each corner of the small enclosure. The lush greenery was currently sparkling with small teardrops of rain along the fresh blades of tender grass.
I made my way to the top of the porch steps and rang the bell as I glanced at the old black slab of granite embedded into the wall beside the mahogany door. It read,
'Dr. Sofia Knight - PHD Psychology & Neurosciences.'
The door opened before me with a click as I snapped my attention back to the door revealing the kind face of a short plump woman wearing a maid's dress and an apron. She smiled and whispered, "You're late again sweetie."
"Well good morning to you too Mallory." I replied with a small smile of my own as I stepped into the large, marble-floored hall. A big staircase winding up to the first floor.
I jogged up the long flight of stairs quickly. Straightening my Linkin park t-shirt with my hands and glancing down at my shorts. I shrug to myself as I knock on the dark blue door after rounding the corner of the small hallway.
"Come in." Came a monotone voice. I opened the door and stepped into the room. It was a cozy office with light colored bean bags, pillows and coffee tables in between each pair. The walls lined with various framed pictures of cute dogs and a familiar looking woman with many different people smiling beside her.
A large desk sat in the middle of the room paired with a comfy looking leather chair.
Each table was decorated with a glass vase and freshly picked flowers arranged professionally in them. Behind her stood a delicately abstract patterned stained glass window overlooking the backyard.
I turned around to close the door quietly behind me. "You're late Twyla." I turned back around and looked up at the lady sheepishly. She had dark brunette hair and brown eyes that gleamed with knowledge.
Knowledge that most wouldn't gain in a lifetime.
She was wearing a minty green sundress with a beige cardigan today.
"I'm sorry, Dr. Knight but I uh....kinda got caught up with my mom for a while. She's leaving to Seattle today." I replied.
She nodded with a knowing look as she gestured for me to take a seat. I sat down on the pink bean bag as she replied "So...did you tell her about your visits yet?" I shook my head quietly in reply as I stared up at an all too familiar picture on the wall behind her.
