Chapter Seven:

If people were rain, then I was a drizzle and she was a hurricane. -Looking For Alaska

Twyla:

I peeped into the small narrow hole of a microscope. Closing my left eye to adjust my optics as to get a clearer view of the blue clump inside.

"Uhhhh...it clearly looks like Prophase-II to me Miss Xiang." I said. Licking my bottom lip and pulling back from the instrument to look back at her.

"Very well, You may go back to your seat then." She said with her terrible poker face. She pushed her thick glasses up her nose further. Making her eyes look almost jelly-like as she stared at me. She was past her mid-50s and had long prominent wrinkles on her face.

The lady never got married and no one knows much about her other than the fact that she's the scariest professor on campus.

I swallowed dryly trying to give her a small smile.

Which I'm pretty sure turned out to look somewhat like a forced grimace.

She just scrunched up her already wrinkled forehead in annoyance.

I nodded. Getting the message wide and clear. It said, 'You can't suck up to me.....ever. Not in this life anyway.'

I turned around and walked back to my table. Sitting back down beside my lab partner Caesar. He had messy dark hair and brown eyes. He disliked Miss Xiang with a passion and mostly just all people in general.

Well, excluding me I hope.

He just gave me a sympathetic look scribbling something onto his notebook with a pencil as I rolled my eyes and watched him knowingly. He finally slid the notebook towards me as I read his bold and boyish handwriting silently.

'She's just fucking with ya. You got it right, you always do.'

I bit the inside of my lip, holding off an amused laugh. Mouthing out a quick 'Gee thanks' in reply to his note.

My gaze drifted off to the open window to my left. The sky was darkening as gloomy looking clouds rolled in and small white cracks penetrated into them in sudden bright flashes.

Lightening.

The one thing that rattles me so much that it's almost embarrassing to admit.

But most of all, I was terrified of the prospect of the thunder that followed.

I needed to get home now. Fast.

Class ended with Miss Xiang distributing assignment papers for the week with a dead-set scowl on her face.

Needless to say, I wasn't looking forward to that.

I gathered my papers and arranged them into a binder neatly as I blew back a few wisps of hair away from my eyes. Holding the binder against my hip with my left hand. I made my way out of class and down the stairs in a hurry.

Lowering my eyesight to about a meter length away from my Jordans.

I was trying to distract myself from looking up at the sky as I made my way outside.

"Twyla!" I stopped in my tracks and swallowed quickly as I looked up.

"Jeez Twy, I've been calling out for you to wait up- for what? like........five minutes." Caesar knelt down beside me to catch his breath as he slumped forward, resting his palms on his knees, glancing at his wristwatch before he spoke again.
"Ugh, I can feel those nuggets from lunch kicking in."

Yikes. I don't have time for this.

"I'm sorry, but I have to go. Like right now. I'll see you in class tomorrow Caesar. Save me a nugget maybe?"

Attempting to give him an apologetic smile whilst clutching the binder to my chest with both arms. With that I turned on my heel in a hurry right before crashing into what felt like a hard ass wall.

It was all over within the span of a millisecond, before I even had a chance to comprehend what happened.

Two impossibly warm hands wrapped around my waist firmly. The red sweater I had on riding up with the jerk-like impact.

Long fingers grazed over my bare skin gently. In turn I let out a loud groan of pain. My eyes snapping shut in impulse.

What the actual...Fuck.

NO. Don't do it.

I tried rubbing my forehead vigorously to shake off the pain shooting through my body.

Breathe.

Running a hand up my forehead and through my hair. Composing myself before my hand returned forward to rest against the said wall. Involuntarily flattening itself against the soft fabric.

Wait.....Fabric?

My eyes burst open as they wandered upwards curiously.

A rock hard chest clad in a dark grey shirt trailing up towards a muscular collar bone and further leading to a well defined jaw.

And finally resting on a face.

Oh and boy did I remember that face like it was yesterday.

Because, it might as well have been yesterday quite fucking literally.
