Chapter Five:
I was born with an enormous need for affection, and a terrible need to give it. -Audrey Hepburn
Twyla:
"Wait a minute, let me get this straight, you left him standing there and just.....walked away?"
"I mean, I didn't mean to....but I-I did." I said sighing and looking up at Dr.Knight warily.
"Wow. That's unfortunate." She murmured, leaning back into her large chair tracing the rim of the glass of water on her desk thoughtfully.
"When Lucy told me that Jules was in trouble, my mind just went straight to the worst conclusion possible and I rushed out of there....I felt my panic rise to the same frenzy as before, I just--I felt like I was drowning again." I closed my eyes as I clutched the pillow beside me tightly.
"You're fine right now Twyla, everything's alright, look around you. I need you to forget about that feeling. Just tell me what exactly happened to Julian again?" She asked looking up at me cautiously.
"He got into a fight with a bunch of guys at the party. Few of those guys were related to the--well one of the girls he was dating and apparently they didn't like that Jules messed with their sister, Lucy got a text from her cousin that goes to Mount-Brennan who was at the famous Julian Peters college party saying that the Julian Peters was in trouble." I ranted out as I stared up at the picture on the wall behind her again.
"Hmm....so what happened when you got there?" She asked.
"Well, it was all over when we actually got there. The house was a little trashed but Jules wasn't harmed much at all. I mean, he's been in kick-boxing tournaments since he was 6....but that's not the point. The point is that when Lucy left to see if she could clean up my brother's cuts and bruises, I just stood there, rattled to the bone after all that happened in one frickin' night. And I-I just passed out on my bed completely drained, when I woke up the next afternoon It was like I was a dead fish. I haven't gotten that much sleep in forever!" I said making hand gestures as I explained.
"Okay well, that's great in a sense, at least you got some good sleep out of it. Any bad dreams again?" She leaned forward and stared at me expectantly.
"Yes, but nothing terrifying. Just me and a boy weirdly familiar to the one I met at the concert, dancing in what looked to be a meadow of roses." I said as my eyes glazed over re-imagining the memory.
"Ah....I know that look." She said, her lips splitting into a rare smile.
"What look?" I said snapping out of my thoughts and glancing back at her.
"The 'I have fallen, and I have fallen hard' look." She flattened her hands on her desk and rested her chin on her hands staring at me knowingly.
"What? So I liked the guy, it's not like I'm going to be seeing him anytime soon. He's gone, and I don't even know his name or......if he felt anything for me at all." I said looking down slightly mumbling the last part, feeling a wave of sadness wash over me.
"What did it feel like for you then?" She said.
"Well, he was goofy, charming, genuine, magnetic and ridiculously good looking.....his scent was to die for....the warmest amber cologne. But most of all....when he pulled me impossibly closer to him, my heart stopped beating for a few seconds, it was the happiest I've felt since dad was killed." I murmured depressed.
