The lavender haired man wiped down tables as he waited for his shift to end at the small noodle shop in town. It hadn't been his dream job, but he knew he had it better than most employed people.

A young girl about the age of fourteen came running into the shop crying. The man immediately walked over to her and pat her back.

"Is something wrong, Misty?" The red headed girl nodded as she sobbed into his arms. The man brought her into a booth and prepared her a bowl of hot soup.

He sat down in the booth with her while the water boiled in the kitchen. "What happened?"
He asked sincerely.

The girl clenched her fists and looked at him with teary eyes. "Gary Oak. That jerk cheated on me with that girl Serena. I don't even want to look at him, James!"

He sighed and looked down at his hands. "Yeah, I know how you feel." Misty looked up at him surprised. "Y-you do?"

James nodded. "Yeah, I've felt the same before. Quite a while back though." She scooted closer to him with interest. "James, have you been in love with someone before?"

He opened his mouth to speak when suddenly the water he was boiling started overflowing. He quickly ran over to it and turned off the fire, then pouring the remaining water into a bowl of freshly made noodles.

James walked back to the table with the meal and slid it over to Misty. "Thanks." She said grabbing her chopsticks.

He smiled and then thought back to her previous question. "Yes." He said confusing the young girl. "Yes what?" She asked.

He looked out the window that sat next to the booth. "Yes, I've been in love before." She nodded and went back to her noodles.

She swallowed another mouthful and looked up to him. "Who were you in love with?" He looked back at her and smiled.

"An amazing woman with brilliant blue eyes, long magenta hair and the most beautiful smile." The man then looked down at his hands once more.

"She... left me for another man. If only I had told her..." He said sighing. Misty looked at him with interest. "If only you had told her what?"

He got up out of the booth and went to go clean up the kitchen once more. Though, continuing the conversation. "Well you see Misty, I didn't tell her I loved her. I was afraid she wouldn't see me in the same way." He said with a smile.

She nodded in understanding and finished her bowl of noodles. "Did you see her ever again?" She asked getting up to wash her bowl.

James nodded and laughed. "Yep. Turns out the guy loved someone else. Sure, she was pretty upset about it but she got over it quickly." Misty laughed as well, setting the dish in the sink.

"So do you still keep in contact with her?" She asked grabbing her school bag. He only laughed harder and showed the ring on his finger.

"I'm engaged to her!" He exclaimed while the young girl stared in shock. "You never told me you had a fiancé!" She said running up to get a better look at his hand.

James smiled as Misty grabbed his hand to look at the ring. "She might have hurt me but fate brought us together again. Now look at us!" Misty let go of his hand hugged his torso.

"Thanks for this, James." She said into his apron. He hugged her back. "Of course, Mist. You're like a little sister to me." She grinned and punched him lightly in the chest. "A little sister who you can't even tell when you're going to get married!"

They laughed as James closed the shop down for the night and walked home joking along the way.
