The next day, I called Luke in a good mood.
"Hey Luce!" he picked up on the second ring.
"Luke! Hey! How are you?" I asked, cheerfully.
"I'm good. You sound weirdly happy, is everything okay?" he said laughing.
"Everything's great! Want to do something?" I asked.
"I'm supposed to meet with the team in half an hour but you can come with, if you want. I know Amile, Matt and Chase are all bringing people." He answered. I thought about it. The risk of my grandpa finding out would be higher if I was with the whole team. I'd also have to interact with Grayson.
"Can I bring Mia?" I wondered. I knew she would totally enjoy seeing Grayson out of class. I also thought it would be funny to see them interact in a different situation.
"Definitely. I'll pick you guys up at your place in like fifteen?" he asked.
"Yup, see you then!" I hung up and texted Mia to let her know, hoping she wouldn't have any plans. She quickly texted back accepting the offer. I walked into the dorm and saw Mia laying on her bed on her phone.
"Hey. " she said not even looking up at me.
"Hey, do you think I should change?" I asked. She looked up to see me in my track shorts, duke shirt and nike shoes. She shook her head.
"I wouldn't I mean, it's Luke." she said. I nodded. She was wearing pretty much the same thing so I figured we'd be underdressed together. I heard a knock on the door. I grabbed my phone, wallet and keys. Mia got off her bed and brushed herself off. I answered the door to see Luke standing there, smiling almost too big.
"What's going on?" I asked suspiciously. He looked down at the floor before looking back up to face me.
"Don't be mad but, umm, you might want to make it very clear to the guys down there that we are not dating." I smacked my palm to my face, shaking my head.
"This is going to be fun." I said sarcastically. Both Mia and Luke laughed as we walked out of the building.
"Where are we going?" I asked, completely forgetting that I hadn't asked before.
"Just to Cameron, we're having a party/gathering thing for the freshman players. You'll have a good time" He said. I nodded. I couldn't tell if it was actually going to be fun or not but I trusted Luke and I had Mia in case it wasn't. We finally got to Cameron and walked in, right through the changing room where all the players except the freshman were gathered.
"Hey guys! This is Lucy and Mia." Luke said. All the players looked over at us. I was so embarrassed. I felt like I had interrupted a really important meeting or conversation. Matt was the first to approach me.
"So you're Lucy." He said laughing. Luke gave me an I-warned-you-this-was-coming look. I rolled my eyes.
"Yes, and before you say anything else Luke and me are not dating." The whole team laughed at that.
"So what's this whole thing?" Mia asked.
"Every year we do a freshman party, kind of welcoming them to Duke and the team. Just between the team and some friends." Smile answered. Mia nodded her head.
"So basketball is like, a big deal here?" She questioned. The whole team looked at Luke for an explanation who looked at me, confused. I just shook my head laughing.
"Yea, basketball's a big deal here. It's the Clemson or Alabama for basketball. " I said, trying to put it into a language she would understand. College football. Her eyes got wide, as she looked back at the players.
