"look, i should be going home." barb said after finishing the chips.

"okay. be safe." nancy said.

"sure." barb winked before walking out of the door.

"mike?" lucas ran up the stairs. the boys finally noticed that mike's been gone for a good 15 minutes. dustin was in the middle of showing will eleven's little blanket fort thing, so they made lucas find mike.

"hey lucas." nancy called from the kitchen.

"where'd mike go?" lucas asked as he walked into the kitchen.

"on the couch probably." she replied.

lucas frowned. "why?

nancy turned on the water tap. "i don't know. he's been having a hard time dealing with the fact that eleven is with another family. be easy on him."

lucas nodded and walked over to the couch. sure enough, mike was still in the exact same position, staring at the ground, thinking about eleven. he had no clue he would miss her this much. she hasn't even been gone for 24 hours and mike was already lonely and sad.

"mike? why'd you leave us?" lucas walked in front of mike. mike didn't do anything.

"earth to mike?" lucas waved his hands in front of mike's face. mike didn't even blink.

"mike?!" lucas asked again. when mike didn't say anything, lucas reached over and slapped him across the face. not so light that he wouldn't feel anything, but not so hard that he'd cry. mike swung back at lucas, whilst still looking at the ground. lucas quickly moved back, avoiding the hit. mike's cheek started to turn a bit red, but he didn't seem to care. "MIKE. SERIOUSLY. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR FRIENDS." lucas yelled. when mike didn't do anything, lucas ran downstairs and got dustin and will. mike expected them all to yell at him, but instead they all put on their shoes and left, without saying a word.

"mike?" nancy walked over and sat on the couch next to him. "it's almost midnight."

mike got up and walked upstairs into his room, once again without saying anything.

"stop ignoring everyone." nancy yelled after him.

mike paused and then came back down the stairs. "she didn't call." his eyes started to fill up with tears.

"what?" nancy asked.

"i-i told el to call me." he sniffed. "and she didn't. i've been waiting all night."

"she probably just got busy unpacking. you'll see her at school tomorrow anyways." nancy said. "but try to get some sleep."

"how can i sleep knowing she might be in danger, nancy?" mike cried out before running up the stairs and laying on his bed. he didn't even put on his pyjamas or anything.

you'll see her at school tomorrow, mike. calm down.

he kept repeating that to himself over and over and over again in his head until he somehow calmed down and fell asleep.

meanwhile, nancy was still cleaning the kitchen. usually, she would force mike to clean it, but he obviously wasn't in the best state of mind. once she had finished she quickly ran up to her room and dialled steve's phone number using the phone on her nightstand.

"steve harrington here, whats up?" he said when he picked up. thats how he always picked up the phone. he thought it was 'cool' or whatever.

"it's nancy." she fiddled with the phone cord out of nervousness.

"hey, nancy. everything alright?" he replied.

"well... no." she said.

"awesome, well, i'll talk to y-" he started

"steve." nancy said firmly

"what?"

nancy paused. her heart started pounding out of her stomach. "i-i think we should see other people."

steve took awhile before saying anything. nancy thought he had hung up on her.

"why?" he asked.

"i don't think we're working out. we can still be friends.... just.... nothing more, steve..... i'm sorry." she said softly.

"are you screwing that jonathan kid or something?" he asked in a rude tone.

"no! jesus, steve! look, we're done, okay?" she practically yelled.

"whatever. don't come crawling to me for help when everyone figures out what a slut you are."

"w-what?! steve i-" nancy was cut off by a long beeping noise. he had just hung up on her. she placed the phone on her nightstand. nancy lied down on her bed and looked up at the celling. she was genuinely glad she wasn't with steve anymore, but she was still somewhat scared that he would spread a rumour about her at school. she was certainly not a slut..... right? she leaned over and turned off her lamp before falling asleep, with jonathan in her mind.
