"he texted." harrison said to emerson. the two were sitting on emerson's couch watching gotham.

"i don't care." emerson said with a blank expression on her face.

"come on, em. i know you care." harrison said. "you can't sit here and tell me that it doesn't make you even a little bit happy.

"it doesn't." she said. "he left me."

harrison decided to let it go and not provoke her. he just wanted the best for his best friend, and he knew that talking about tom only made her upset.

"so, you're at eight weeks." harrison said. "when's your appointment?"

"tomorrow." emerson said. "when i went last time, the doctor asked me where my husband was. can you believe that?" harrison could tell she was trying to stay strong, but he could see the pain in her eyes.

"i'm sorry, em."

"i know."

"do you want me to go with you tomorrow? i'd love to see the kid growing inside of you." he said. emerson smiled at him and laid her head on his shoulder.

"i would love for you to, haz." she said. "what would i do without you?"

"you'll never have to find out." he said. within seconds, he could hear emerson crying, and he moved her face so he was looking into her eyes. "what's wrong?"

"that's what tom said to me." she said. "i once asked him what our lives would be like if we hadn't found each other. he told me that i would never have to find out." harrison pulled her into a hug, never wanting to let the sad girl go. "he lied to me."

"i know, em." he said. "you're better than him. you're a badass, okay? you're going to be an amazing mother. this baby is going to love you with all their heart, and i can't wait to be uncle harrison."

"i love you, haz." she said.

"i love you more, em." he said. "and i promise you, i'll never leave you alone. you'll always have me. always and forever."
