Chapter 10

Jason's POV

After our little fight I escaped downstairs to the kitchen, trying to calm down. Why does she do this to me? I groaned and I ran my hands through my already wild hair. An hour passed before I was completely cooled down and I slowly walked upstairs, exhausted. Azalea sat on the edge of the bed looking lost in thought. I cleared my throat not wanting to scare her and she looked up at me with sad eyes.

“Jason, I'm sorry.” She said her voice soft. I nodded and walked over to her pulling her into my arms. My poor lost kitten. My poor kitten. I pressed my lips to the top of her head and raised her shirt up a little ways. I rubbed circles on her now exposed side and she buried her head into my chest.

“Let's go to sleep, kitten.” I muttered and she nodded letting out a yawn. I took off my pants and shirt before climbing into bed next to kitten. I pulled her into me and she snuggled her face in my chest. “Kitten?” I asked in between yawns.

“Yes?” She asked her voice soft.

“What's your thing with roses?” I asked tilting her head so I could look at those beautiful violet eyes.

“It's a form of respect, even the worst of the worst deserve respect.” She said looking at me with wide eyes. I nodded and kissed her on her cheek.

Azalea's POV

Tears streamed down my face as I pressed my hand against the cool glass window. Another flash of lightening struck outside and thunder crackled. I closed my eyes and pressed my forehead against the glass. “Kitten?” Jason called, his voice soft.

“Go back to sleep Jason.” I said softly not looking at him.

“What's wrong, kitten?” Jason asked as he walked closer to me, placing his hand on my shoulder.

I shook my head and said, “It's nothing.”

“Kitten, tell me.” He said, his voice caring and full of concern. I let out a sigh and closed my eyes turning my head slightly to look at Jason. I closed my eyes remembering the day vividly as I told him about what happened.

I was seven and my older sister Jane was nine. We were spending the weekend at my Dad's, he got drunk that night and he was going to beat us. It was thundering out and raining hard, it wasn't any weather you should go out in. We were terrified, we had never seen him this angry before. Janie and I rushed out of the house and there was this bridge that went across the creek. Janie said that if we got across it, we would be fine.

We started to walk across the old bridge when Janie's foot slipped. She held on to the side of the bridge and I grabbed her hands trying to pull her up but I wasn't strong enough. “Run Zales, run.” She yelled at me but I shook my head, I wasn't going to let her fall. I could hear him calling our names and I tried my hardest to pull her up before he found us. He came walking towards us, he was extremely angry.

Tears slipped down my cheeks as I looked at my Dad with pleading eyes. “Daddy, please don't.” I begged trembling slightly. He looked at me like I was an annoyance and he kicked me in my ribs. I lost my grip on Janie and she fell into the water, the currents taking her under. The police arrived and took him away, shipping me off to some foster family.

“J-Jason, I should have been strong enough to pull her up.” I sobbed now in his lap with his arms wrapped protectively around me.

“Shh kitten, it wasn't your fault. There was nothing you could do.” He cooed rubbing circles in my back and I tried to stop my crying. Every time there was a thunderstorm I could never sleep and all the memories of that night come rushing back. I can still see Janie's scared face when she saw him coming, it's imprinted in my brain for the rest of my life.
