Sasuke POV

"Shikamaru" I replied trying to look bored "why are you staring into nothing and growling Naruto's name" he asked looking at me like I'm stupid, I narrowed my eyes and opened my mouth to tell him to mind his own business but thought better of it since he might know where Naruto is "Naruto has asked for a few days off but hasn't told anyone where he was going only the Hokage and he's not saying anything" I said keeping a close eye on him but what shocked me was Shikamaru didn't look that surprised "you know something, don't you" I questioned narrowing my eyes at him, I saw Shikamaru roll his eyes "to answer your question Sasuke I do but here isn't the place to talk about it" and then he turned around towards his clan house I watch him for a second before deciding to follow, if he knows something then a few minutes in his company wouldn't hurt especially if I get some information about Naruto

Shikamaru POV

I walked towards my clan house and I knew he was following me, I didn't realise that his teammates didn't know about this yet and the fact that they've been a team for awhile says he doesn't trust them, which isn't hard to imagine when you think about who's actually on his team in the first place "well are you going to tell me" Sasuke demanded, I sighed before sitting down in my mothers garden which is actually private and no-one will hear us "I found out about three years ago, did you know Naruto isn't as stupid as everyone makes him out to be, when I found out I wanted to know why he would keep it a secret and do you know what he said" I paused looking at him shake his head probably trying to understand his own teammate "he said 'it's the only way I can survive' I didn't understand at first why he would say that but after I researched a little, I finally figured it out" I stopped as I looked over my mothers garden

"Well what did you find out" Sasuke asked breaking me out of my thoughts "did you know Naruto is the son of the Fourth Hokage" I answered watching him take in the information "why didn't we know who his father was" he whispered confused after the shock left his face, which is understandable whenever you mention the Fourth Hokage all everyone does is praise the man and when I researched him, it's no wonder they did because he was a genius, a seals master and a very power shinobi "because he didn't know until after graduation" a new voice said we both quickly turned around and there stood the Hokage "please don't be alarmed, I'm surprised it took someone this long to figure it out" he whispered the last bit "Lord Hokage why didn't he know the truth before graduation" Sasuke questioned looking confused and I understood that because ever since I found out I could never understand it either "ever since Naruto was born he has had to bare a heavy burden and if anyone outside of Konoha found out who his parents were then he would become more of a target, when he graduated I knew he needed to know so I told him but..." he trailed off "he already knew didn't he" I finished for him wondering what else Naruto was hiding from everyone

The Hokage looked at me sadly "yes he did, I didn't ask him how he figured it out because I could see the intelligence lurking in his eyes..." he was cut off "wait you said he would become more of a target, what did you mean by that" Sasuke said narrowing his eyes at the Hokage, I mentally rolled my eyes at him "I'm afraid that is something only Naruto can tell you and I won't betray his trust and I was being serious in my office Sasuke let him come home first, give him space and hopefully he will realise that he needs to trust other people" Lord Hokage said but the "leave him alone" bit was an order "before I leave think about this, in the whole village Naruto only trusts one person" when he paused we looked at him "me, I want him to learn to trust others but they need to trust in him first" he whispered and then he was gone
