Out of the woods by the side of the road emerged an energetic husky followed by his owner. The owner looked a couple of years older than me and had brown hair so dark it was almost black. It sat in a neat quiff upon his head, brushed out of his face so that his glowing green eyes were the centre of attention. The hairstyle also complimented his solid bone structure and sharp jawline. His body was completely drool worthy, and I couldn't help but want to move closer to him.
He jumped in surprise when he saw us. "Hiya there. Don't usually see any walkers around here," he said as a greeting. His voice was smooth and self-assured.
"We're not walkers," Phil answered and I could tell he was trying to look intimidating. He'd set his jaw and straightened his back so that he appeared taller. Not that he needed to. His multiple tattoos, piercings and natural height made him intimidating enough.
"You from around here?"
"None of your business," Phil answered immediately.
"No, we're on a road trip but we got a flat a few miles back, so we're hiking to the nearest town," I said ignoring Phil's chilling glare.
"And you're gonna hike along the road?"
I nodded when Phil didn't answer.
"Bad idea. These winding country lanes will take you ages. Take the trails, they're much shorter."
Phil huffed in annoyance, but once again I ignored him. "I'd be too afraid of getting lost."
"I wouldn't mind helping you out," the guy answered, smirking as his eyes ran up and down my body quickly. I almost cried out in happiness. What were the chances that someone this hot would be gay and also into me?
"No thanks. We'll stick to what we know," Phil said firmly, before taking a few steps away from the guy. I stayed rooted in my place.
"No, we won't. He said he knows a shorter way. Let's go the shorter way."
Phil huffed again, and I thought for sure he was going to punch either me or the man in front of us. When he took a step towards me I flinched, but he ended up wrapping his hand around my wrist and dragging me behind a tree a few feet away from the man and his dog.
"Wow, Phil, you are a master spy, there's no way he can hear us from behind a tree," I drawled sarcastically.
"Shut the fuck up," Phil hissed, irritation plastered all over his face. "Why the fuck do you always have to be an annoying shit? Can't you listen to me for once?" The Phil that had let me lay my head in his lap was long gone.
"You want us to walk another 7 miles! Why would I ever agree to that? He knows a shorter way."
"He could be a—"
"What? Kidnapper? Murderer?"
Phil flinched at the last word, and I immediately closed my mouth, feeling burning regret run through me at the pained look on his face.
"He has a dog," I continued softly when Phil didn't say anything. "Only nice people have dogs."
"He could get us lost."
"I doubt it. He's obviously from here. He'll just take us to town and we'll get a lift back. It'll be fine."
Phil sighed. "I don't like it."
