12: Two Raspberry Waffle Cones

Christian's POV

I sat in art and watched my brother with Rose. I sat next to Kobe at his table with some other wolves from our pack. They were talking about girls that they knew from a pack outside of town, but I wasn't paying attention.

I regretted fretting over Rose and leaving Ashley for her because 'it all felt right having Rose and Zander together, our alpha and luna together.' I literally cringed  at the thought. I couldn't even lie to myself in my own mind. I wish that seeing them together felt normal, but honestly it bothered me. I was the first person she met here, I envisioned myself showing her around and growing close with her. Not that I couldn't still do that now, as her friend, but it seemed like Zander was going to make that rather difficult.

I watched his hand resting on her bare back. Her black shirt dipped midway down her back revealing her smooth tan skin, and I watched as Zander effortlessly maintained skin to skin contact.

"You okay, man?" Kobe asked me, snapping me out of my daze.

"Yeah brother, just tired," I said. It wasn't a lie. I spent the entire night running through the woods. My wolf needed to overpower me to teach my heart how to behave.

"Long night after the news from Zander?" he chuckled. "What happened between you and Rose anyway?" he asked.

"Nothing, Kobe. Nothing at all and I don't know why you both are acting like there was something," I responded through gritted teeth.

"Jeez, man. Remind me not to ask next time," he said as he laughed with his friends at my response.

"Are you telling me none of you feel called to her a little bit?" I asked the group from our pack.

"Well yeah, she's our luna," Jake stated. Jake was a good friend of our family. His father was the current beta. But we all knew that would change soon when Zander was named alpha, but Jake and Zander were pretty close so it was possible he might take his father's place.

"I know that. I mean beyond that? And maybe not you as much, Jake, but Kobe, you're telling me you felt nothing?" I asked.

"If you're asking us if she's hot, the answer is yes," Kobe said as Zander looked up and glared directly at us. Kobe laughed hard, he knew Zander would be able to hear him. "It's true. She is, but that doesn't mean I want to get with her. I'm happy for Zander and I think if one of us were going to find our mate first, I'm glad it was him, and I'm glad it was her that he found," Kobe said. He was right and I knew it. Deep down I always hoped that if I found my mate first, Dad might name me alpha. But in reality I knew that wouldn't happen, as Zander was clearly a perfect fit.

"I guess it's good for him so he can finally have everything he's wanted," I said bitterly referring to his alpha title.

"You know what, Christian? You're right. He can finally have everything he's wanted, but not in the sense that you're talking about. The title is not everything for him, but Rose, she is everything to him... Just watch him and the way he looks at her. Have you ever seen him act that way before? He's completely in love with her," Jake paused as we looked over to see Zander smiling and looking at Rose as if she had 1,000 galaxies in her eyes while she passionately shared with him about her love of art. I sighed deeply. "It actually kind of sucks for him because he has to just want her to accept the reality and the speed of her very real feelings, but she can't fully do that because she's human. With wolves, it's like you both just know and you can begin your lives right away. With a human... it has to be so different. All she knows is she can't control herself around him, she doesn't know why. And she doesn't know his devotion to her, nor does she comprehend the reason behind her own willingness to be devoted to him," Jake explained. To my surprise, Kobe nodded in agreement.
