Night came and Team Avatar settled all into their rooms for taking some rest. Sokka had agreed to go through the plan in one condition, to guard well the agent who was supposed to kill Azula, with Zuko's most trusted soldiers. While everyone settled in their rooms, Sokka and Suki were out on a date. It's been long since they've been on a date and they both enjoyed it.
Zuko had to admit himself that, letting Aang and Katara share the same room, it was something he'd regret. But what choice did he have? It was painful seeing the woman you love with someone else...
Wait, what?! I don't love her, who said I love her?! We're just friends, for Agni's sake!
If only it was that easy...
Katara and Aang were already in their room. It was big with a double bed in the middle and a balcony. She sat at the edge of the bed taking off her shoes, releasing her legs from their tight grasp. She was tired from the journey. She woke up from the bed and she walked towards the mirror unraveling her hair from her braid.
When she was done she walked outside on the balcony where she saw Aang standing. He'd been worried about the National Tea Appreciation Day. What if something went wrong? He didn't even want to think of that.
Katara approached from behind and she placed her hand on his shoulder. He turned and looked at her, giving her a warm smile. He took her hand from his shoulder and he lifted it towards his lips placing a gentle kiss on it. She smiled back at him.
"Don't worry, Aang," Katara said smiling back at him.
Aang's smile faded and the worried expression in his eyes returned "What if Azula doesn't fail?" He asked worryingly.
"Azula is mentally unstable. If anything, Ozai handed her that task because he wants her to fail," Katara said.
Aang sighed still not feeling less stressed than before. She slipped her right hand on his left shoulder, and her left hand wrapped his right one. "We haven't danced in awhile," she said without taking her eyes off of his.
Aang chuckled and he slipped his hand towards her waist bringing them, gently, closer. "Ever since the war," Aang said half protesting, half smiling as they moved around the balcony in a small beat. They didn't need music to dance, the, pleasingly, cool breeze and the sun slowly fading was just fine.
Aang's heart ragged. He loved Katara from the very first moment he laid eyes on her. They've been together through so much... he just couldn't imagine his life without her. He hugged her, and they continued dancing slowly in each other's arms.
Katara closed her eyes, passing her both hands around his neck, resting her head on his chest. But when she opened her eyes and she tried to look at him, for some reason she expected to see Zuko's face. When she saw Aang, part of her was disappointed and the other was just... surprised.
Aang's my boyfriend... Zuko is just my friend, snap out of it! She urged herself and she forced a warm smile trying to wipe the feeling. I love Aang, I've always loved him, from the beginning we were destined to be together... She tried to convince herself and she leaned closer, kissing him, determinedly.
(Brief A/N: Sorry for the Kataang moment, dear Zutarians. It's gonna take longer than you expected ;)
Zuko needed some air. After everything that's been going on the last hours he just couldn't calm down. He kept turning and tossing around until he finally walked out of his balcony. He placed his hands on the rails and then he rested his head on them, burying his fingers in his hair.
