Night XVIII
An Unknown EntityMutters of shock and outrage filled the area, all eyes locked disbelievingly onto the young Aegean male seated on the floor, frozen in resignation.
"Huh... Guess that's it then," he muttered under his breath, getting off the ground and staring down at it, in a grim acknowledgment.
Mahad cursed violently in his head, glancing around at the civilians now watching them, utter horror written across each of their faces.
Mothers clutched their children protectively in fear, hiding them behind their backs.
Fathers blocked the both of them from sight, drawing their weapons if need be.
Only the young children, looked on in awe as they took in the presence of the foreign boy, marveling at the unusual hairstyle and the electric green eyes that flickered to them blankly.
Only these few offspring, who had yet to know of the political state of affairs between each empire and the commoners of Xynes.
Mahad gritted his teeth in remembrance.
While the seven empires of Nervonia had been blessed by the gods, the rest of the world had looked on in envy, dismally aware of their own unfortunate future. They lived in fear and oppression, treated as if they were mere stains on the empires' expensive shoes.
Tensions reaching the breaking point, the men of science eventually decided that they would take matters into their own hands, developing the arts that they now wielded today.
They kidnapped Aeiytian magicians, experimenting on them and learning the works of the average mage anatomy. They observed certain similarities; the fact that within each one was a large network of open pores called keifh, that allowed for them to intake the mana that dwelled around.
Pores that were closed within them all.
Unable to open them without divine guidance, they fashioned their own artificial ones, creating a fake stream of energy that ran between every location in Xynes.
Soon after, they waged war.
It was because of this that the Pharaoh of Aeiytia decided to placate them, giving them their rights in order to cease fire. Somewhat satisfied, they now leached resources from the empires, much to the latter's displeasure, finally pleased at last.
It was with this judgment that Amenophis became the head of the council, charged with managing diplomatic relations with all eight 'empires'.
However, due to their crimes against Aeiytia, they were banned from ever setting foot there, ever again.
Which meant problems for the trio right now.
"Mommy, who's that?" a little girl inquired, tugging on the fabric of her mother's dress curiously.
"Be quiet, Layla!" she hissed fearfully, pushing her behind her.
"And don't look at them!" the brunette glanced pointedly away, sweat trickling down the side of her face.
The child still stared cluelessly at them.
Mahad pitied her.
Recalling his own dilemma, he tried to rectify the situation.
"Ha, would you look at that?" the redhead laughed fakely as he stood in front of his friend.
"Sorry, we can't stay any longer, but we have an appointment to get to, and we can't be late for it, you know?" he excused lamely, turning Anubis around and giving him a pointed shove.
